Grandparents a source of wisdom, strength, joy To honor your grandparents, spend some time with them. Ask them about their childhood, the challenges they had to overcome in their lives, and what advice they would give you for your own life. President Jimmy Carter created National Grandparents Day in 1978 and made official proclamation in 1979. In President Obama's 2013 proclamation, he said, "Grandparents are a tremendous source of wisdom, strength, and joy. They are caregivers, teachers, and friends -- windows to the past and guideposts for the future." Today's grandparents are living longer than those in past generations, due to advanced medical care and a focus on healthier lifestyles that include exercise and participation in sports activities, like golfing, swimming and tennis. Travel: Sharing memories in Austin, TX By Veronica Arnold If you grew up in north Austin, as I did as a kid in the 90s... getting Amy's Ice Cream and visiting the stone cows at the arboretum was a good night. You could look out at the hill country from the elevated walk, or walk down to feed the oddly aggressive ducks and geese. I don't know how many kids and adults have played on these cows. It is art that is interactive and tactile. Art that interacts with you and has lasted for generations now. I am sure someone who cast and created the cow herd sculptures never knew it would be that much of a cultural piece. It brought me much joy to see my child sitting on those cows, playing and being imaginative while chowing down on sugary ice cream from a local business... those who grew up in the Hill Country of Austin would see that picture and it sums up many memories. I hope you too go to Texas and see the cows... even a farmer can appreciate the level of cow that everyone can interact with. Adair Co. Students enjoy All In for Ag Education Week By Robin Hancock ACMS/ACHS FFA Advisor/Agriculture Teacher All In for Ag Education Week was a big success in Adair County! It started the week before in kindergarten at ACPC with ACHS students teaching about soils using the book The Soil in Jackie's Garden by Peggy Thomas, which is a book endorsed by the American Farm Bureau Federation. This past week, first grade students from ACPC and fifth graders from ACES travelled to the ACHS FFA Agricultural Building to learn about farm safety such as tractor, lawn mower, ATV, sun, medical, fire, and livestock safety. The farm safety days would not have been possible without all of our community partners, the Columbia-Adair Fire Department, Adair County Ambulance Service, Wright Implement, Ag Revolution, Adair County Farm Bureau, Progressive Ag Foundation, the Adair County 4-H, and the Adair County FFA. In addition, a new ACMS FFA officer team was elected:
In addition, displays were set up at ACMS and ACHS educating all students about Kentucky Agriculture and how Kentucky farmers not only provide our food, but also have a major impact on the state's economy. The Adair County FFA thanks all of our supporters for helping teach the students of Adair County about agriculture! 2025-09-22 09:21:32 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Education
