Let the winter games begin - January 5, 2025 By April Shepperd Observations from her corner of Columbia Kentucky - This morning I awoke to a beautiful snowfall. The trees and grass were bright and shimmering. It was simply stunning. A silent winter wonderland. By 10 a.m. the ice storm hit. Ice pelted against my windows which were soon glistening sheets of ice. My steps and walkway dared me to tred upon them. Encased in an ice/snow conglomeration, my car sat in the driveway. My hope is that, as it's casing slowly melts and slides off, it removes the layer of dirt. The sleet began in the afternoon, pattering softly and melding the previous precipitation into a solid mass. This evening, as not to be outdone, the rain began accompanied by it's siblings thunder and lightning. The temperature will drop into the single digits this week, with a forecasted high of only 32 degrees, thus ensuring no meltdown for at least 10 days. I, however, embrace the challenge, promising to tackle long-overdue photo editing and a spare bedroom closet that mocks me whenever I enter the room.
