KSP Charge 54 for Cruelty to Animals in Casey Co. From Trooper Jonathan Houk Dunnville, KY - Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 in Columbia investigated an animal cruelty complaint reported in Casey County on Saturday, January 4, 2025. As a result of the investigation, fifty-four individuals have been charged for their involvement in the incident yesterday morning in the Dunnville community of Casey County. On January 4, 2025, at 11:10amET, KSP Post 15 received a call from an individual stating an organized chicken-fighting event was currently active at a property on Riffe Creek Road. Troopers responded to the property and made contact with numerous individuals involved in a chicken-fighting event. Troopers shut down the event while at the property. Hotel on Columbia Public Square has several owners From Mike Watson This is a visit to the history and ownership of the old hotel located where the Adair County Courthouse Annex building and parking lot are today. In 1898 John N. Conover built a fine brick hotel on the northwest corner of the Public Square. It was the finest and most modern building in Columbia for many years. Built on the site of a previously burned hotel, Mr. Conover's hotel contained twenty-eight rooms and fronted on Greensburg Street and the Square. Managed by Mr. and Mrs. George Coffey and Mrs. Kate Smith, there was a gala opening on 7 December 1898. The hotel was known by several names, as many persons operated it over the years. Garry Moore Thomas, 73, Russell County, KY Garry Moore Thomas, of Russell Springs, passed from this life on New Years Day of 2025, at his home. He was 73 years of age. Garry was born November 7, 1951, in Russell County, son of the late Ellebree and Olza Shepard Thomas. On this past December 14, he and his wife Patricia had celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary commemorating 50 wonderful years of marriage. Garry was a farmer; his family would say he was born in the wrong era. At heart, he was a cowboy; he had a great love for riding horses and raising sheep. Garry was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. In the past, he had worked at Russell Sportswear, Osh Kosh, Fruit of the Loom and American Greetings. Garry was a UK basketball fan.
