KSP: Russell Co. man charged with sexual solicitation RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. (December 29, 2024) - Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Troopers have arrested a Russell County man on a charge relating to the sexual solicitation of a minor. On December 26, 2024, a KSP Trooper received a complaint alleging Zachary Grider, 33, of Russell Springs, was sending messages to a 15-year-old juvenile through the Snapchat social media platform with some messages containing sexual references. ACSO: Single vehicle rollover in Pellyton On December 30, 2024, at around 9amCT, the Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to the 18000 block of Liberty Road, in the Pellyton community of Adair County, for a single vehicle rollover accident. Brandon Poff, age 34, of Liberty, was operating a 2008 Honda CRV traveling east on Liberty Rd. when a tire blew out, causing Poff to lose control, and the vehicle to overturn. Poff was ejected from vehicle and was flown to UK Hospital for his injuries. A male juvenile passenger was taken to hospital by private vehicle for treatment of his injuries. The accident is being investigated by Adair County Deputy Sheriff Gary Roy. Basketball: Lady Indians finish runner-up at VLCC By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Sunday, December 29, 2024, the Adair County Lady Indians Basketball team fell to the East Carter Lady Raiders, 56-47, in the team's third and final game of the Vanous Lloyd Christmas Classic, played on Tim Riley Court in Dragon Arena on the campus of Warren Central High School. Despite the loss, Adair County still had a very strong showing in the tournament, finishing runner-up and ahead of district foe Marion County. CACVFD: Mobile home fire on Greensburg Road From Grant Loy, Public Information Officer Columbia Adair County Fire Department The Columbia Adair County Fire Department was dispatched to 4236 Greensburg Road at approximately 17:43 hours on Sunday, December 29, 2024, on a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a mobile home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters conducted a defensive attack on this fire which brought this fire quickly under control. The fire was contained to the original structure. The cause of this fire is unknown at this time. There were 17 firefighters on scene for approximately 1.5 hours. No injuries were reported at the time of this incident. Automatic Mutual Aid was provided by the Breeding Fire Department. Basketball: Indians victorious in final MCIT game By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Saturday, December 29, 2024, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated the Campbell County Camels 61-59 in their second and final game of the Mason County Invitational. The Indians were sparked to victory with a go-ahead lay-in from Senior Brayton Coomer, with less than 2 seconds remaining. The win improves the team to 8-3 on the season, and puts momentum behind them heading into the 2A sectional hosted by LaRue County, which will see the Indians face the Lakers of Russell County on January 2, 2025. In their matchup against the Camels, the Indians shot 51% from the floor and 35% from three. The leading scorers were Isaiah Cochran with 27, followed by by Connor Loy with 13. Loy led in rebounds with 8, followed by Cochran with 7. This win was a special accomplishment for the team as they were without senior Lane Grant, who has been a major producer for the team this season. Reminder: Film crews in town in late January From Tiffany Collins The City of Columbia and the Columbia Police Department would like to remind everyone that a filming of "The Crow" will take place in Columbia and areas of Adair County on the weekends of January 24, 2025, and January 31, 2025. This film is being produced by Adair County native Jenna Snow Grant, as a part of her senior project at Belmont University. Approximately thirty individuals associated with the project will be in our community during this process. In the evening hours on the weekend of January 24, portions of downtown Columbia in the area of Greensburg Street, South High Street, and West Fortune Street will be closed to traffic. The Columbia City Police Department will be utilizing traffic control on these dates. Areas to bypass the filming area will be indicated. Wilma Wise, 87, Taylor County, KY (1937-2024) Wilma Jean Wise of Campbellsville, daughter of the late William Webster and Ida Darnell Webster, was born February 17, 1937 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died Friday, December 27, 2024 in Campbellsville at age 87. She was a retired schoolteacher with the Taylor County School System. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Meadowview Baptist Church. She united in marriage to Valus Wise November 21, 1962 and he preceded her in death March 19, 1998. Missing man found in Adair County From Adair county Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management Sunday, December 29, 2024 at approximately 3:08pm, Adair County E-911 received a call from a resident in the Breeding Community, on Pelston Cemetery Road, about an abandoned vehicle stuck in a field on their property. Adair County Sheriff's Office dispatched the information and responded. Upon further investigation it was determined that that a 74 year-old-man was missing from the vehicle.
