Football: Stonebraker and Grant named to CJ All State Team By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer Two Adair County Football players were named to the Louisville Courier-Journal All State Team. Senior wide receiver Solomon Stonebraker was named to 3rd Team All State, and Senior all running back/all purpose player Lane Grant was an All State Honorable Mention. The two players helped the Indians put together their standout season. Stonebraker notched his best game in the 36-30 win over Monroe County where he posted 9 receptions for 231 yards and 2 touchdowns. Grant saw his best work passing the ball in that same game, going 9 of 14 for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns, and had his best game on the ground with 201 yards and 2 touchdowns on 27 rushes. I still believe in Santa Claus (and Jesus) By Mayor Pam I vaguely remember being very young and believing in Santa Claus. I knew that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. I learned that Jesus represented hope, joy and unimaginable love. But Santa Claus also provided joy and love. Plus, he would give real presents. I had no use for gold, frankincense and myrrh. So, I was committed to believing in Santa Claus (and Jesus). At a young age, Christmas was always a time for hope, joy and love. I was all in on getting those feelings regardless of whether they came from a chubby old guy with flying reindeer who came down the non-existent chimney at my home on Tutt Street or from a little baby born over 2000 years ago in a manger. Daniel Eric Matney, 49, Green County, KY Daniel Eric Matney of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of Danny Harold Matney of Greensburg and the late Patsy Ann Meadows Matney, was born on Thursday, September 11, 1975 in Greensburg and departed this life on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at his home. He was 49 years, 3 months, and 10 days of age. He had made a profession of Faith in Christ and worked as a Sawyer for many years. He was married to Amanda Dupps Matney of Greensburg who survives. President Hopkins encourages graduates to focus on others By Gerard Flanagan, lead writer and communications specialist, Office of CU Marketing and Communications It was August of 2020 and a different university for CU President Dr. Joseph Hopkins. As the world was trying to return to some degree of normalcy in the midst of COVID-19 and debates over masking ensued, one of Hopkins' colleagues made stickers to place on the masks that read, "For others." "Those two words had the power to break through the tension of discomfort, political divisions and self-interests," Hopkins asked during his charge to the graduates at CU's commencement ceremonies recently. "So, is it possible that we could take this lesson to a broader application of life?"
