Letter: Billy Joe's photo of town branch By Vonnie Kolbenschlag The town branch waterway first brought animals to seek water; hunters followed the animals, campsites and housing for hunters and settlers, who needed water, helped develop Columbia as a town. Waterways provided access to areas before there were roads... early addresses gave directions as a waterway before there were roads. Even now, water is a very important reason for a company to consider for locating. Springs along the way of the town branch furnished water. One such dependable heavily producing spring, with a stone spring house, is now paved over, but there is a depression forming where it once was. Check it out at Lynn's Service Station next to the town branch rippling along beside it. Stones from the historic springhouse, after it was removed, were taken to the Trabue/Russell House and used as a border for a garden (not the main garden). These stones were never identified as to their source. The spring house provided refrigeration for perishables. The blacksmith position morphed into Cole's Tin Shop located near-by. A blacksmith was a very important trade to have at one time. Tuttie Clark, 66, Campbellsville, KY (1958-2024) Tuttie Clark of Campbellsville, daughter of Lura Quinn Glidewell and the late Clarence Glidewell, was born November 10, 1958 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in Campbellsville at age 66. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Elk Horn Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Taylor County Schools. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved and thought of Adam as her own son. Tuttie loved to travel with friends and found joy in serving others.
