Watch for black ice as temp falls to freezing mark We were awakened today by lingering thunderstorms and heavy rain with a flood watch. It's a time to be extra careful driving and walking where black ice could form. The weather report calls for showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 4pm, then a slight chance of showers between 4pm and 5pm. Tonight the temperature will hover at a low of freezing, 32 degrees, before we wake up to partial sunshine Thursday morning. By Friday we'll have a chance of snow. 2024-12-18 13:17:50 | Comments | Printable version
Preacher Tucker, 73, Russell County, KY Preacher was widely known in Russell County; some would say that he was a local celebrity. For 35 years, his voice was well known to Russell Countians as a dee-jay at the WJRS Laker Country radio station. LWC Bonner Scholars donate winter coats to Head Start students By Shelby Burton Public Relations A group of Lindsey Wilson College students helped ensure that area children will keep warm this winter. LWC students in the college's Bonner Scholar Program delivered 50 winter coats to Adair County Head Start on Monday morning. Members of the LWC community and Columbia-Adair County residents donated coats and money to purchase coats for the LWC Bonner Scholar Program. This year's drive, in its 14th year, was led by LWC Director of Civic Engagement and Student Leadership Kisha Burton and Bonner Scholar Assistant Director Yayi Sonnabend. Along with two LWC Bonner Scholars, Burton and Sonnabend presented the coats Monday to Adair County Head Start. Collin Pike, a middle grades education junior from Columbia, and Makaylah Hadley, an elementary education junior from Campbellsville, Kentucky, gave each child a coat that was specially chosen for them. "It was so fun just seeing all the kids' faces light up when you go in there and give them their coats and they smile and they act so excited to get it," said Pike. "The dedication and love that we have for service and giving back to the community and giving these kids their coats really shows them that we care and that we love them." ACHS Boys Basketball Gives Back From Daniel Hedges The ACHS Boys Basketball players initiated and organized to provide a full Christmas for an Adair County youth. The players funded and bought gifts for a child in need in the community. Senior basketball players stated, "We wanted to give back to the community that supported us and continue to support our goals on the court. Coach Breeze has instilled in us that we should be servant leaders. He stresses our real purpose as a team and as people is to be a part of something bigger than ourselves and create positive change. So, we talked as a team and decided to do this project." Adair County should be proud of these young men and their outstanding character. 2024-12-18 10:13:24 | Comments | Printable version Birthdays and Anniversaries for December 18 Happy Anniversary, Michael and Angie Hinkle (1999) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Odis and Louine Sinclair (1961) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Ann Powell Moore | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Ashley Harris | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Caroline Hardwick | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Christopher Miller (1998) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Cody Dorman (2005) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Kayla Bennett (1994) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Shirley Dean Morrison | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Mr. Otha Rubel Sallee (Buddy), 75, Taylor Co., KY (1937-2013) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Everette Eugene Foley, Russell County, KY (1931-2014) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, James (Jimmy) Franklin, 80, Taylor Co., KY native (1935-2016) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Terry Cobb Allen, Liberty, KY (1951-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Glenna Gayle Taylor Bryant, Liberty, KY (1941-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, William Douglas Merritt, Nashville, TN (1954-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Johnny R.
