Financial health is one key to a happy home

It's no secret that money is the root of many family problems. In fact, according to a recent study from Bread Financial, 58 percent of Millennials and 57 percent of Gen Z report arguments with their spouse over finances. The most common dispute? Shopping and spending habits. About 51 percent report these disagreements. Next line for these two groups are budgeting and monthly expenses.

Baby Boomers, who discuss finances less frequently than other generations, say it is credit card debt that sparks arguments. Most financial counselors agree that the keys to financial compatibility are honesty, planning, and agreement.

Travel: A tour of Seehaus in Leonberg

Another adventure from the Arnold's trip to Germany in late November involved a visit to Seehaus, a juvenile rehabilitation program designed to offer an alternative to prison time. Click headline to see photos from their visit.

By Veronica Arnold

We visited with some staff parents at the Seehaus. Our host family here works a day job there and arranged the meeting. We got a short tour of their facilities and listened to how they do daily schedules for the young men/boys in their program.

These young men have chosen or were sent to Seehaus as an alternative to youth detention. They are taught trades, live in a family type situation, have agricultural setting, far from town, set in the hills and mountains. Quite a beautiful place to visit and not many Europeans get to live or experience an agricultural living. We were quite pleased to see these beautiful historic buildings being used, and coming from an agricultural community, it felt like the "right way" to do things!

The staff said recidivism rates among the graduates from Seehaus is very, very low. These young men are getting a new chance at life, and being given life skills and social skills to make it more likely they are successful.

Cheers*,
The Arnolds of Fairplay

*"Cheers" is the expression used for saying goodbye like at at restaurant or with friends, in line at the grocery store to the cashier.

Video: Red-tailed hawks

Darryl Smith writes:
I found this video on the "Birding" sub-Reddit and thought that it might interest you. Somebody heard a Red-Tailed hawk and went out to take a picture and captured this aerial mating ritual (with an iPhone!).
Thanks to Darryl for sending the link -- it's a great video! You can watch it below, or at reddit.com:

Heard a red-tailed hawk screech and went outside to film it. Couldn't believe I caught this on camera.
