From Kim Harwood, Executive Director
Edmonton Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber of Commerce Christmas Banquet wrapped up with the presentation of the 4th Quarter Achilles Award to Tareena Horton, Agency Manager at Metcalfe County Kentucky Farm Bureau. This honor does not come with ribbons, a fancy award or money, but it is used to recognize charitable deeds, kindness, and compassion for others by those who exhibit these qualities in the community. (see: New award acknowledges spirit of good deeds)

Tareena Horton is an amazing example of these traits. Tareena has made Metcalfe County her home and over the years she has donated countless hours and resources to the school, the Chamber of Commerce, the Harold Chambers Theater Troupe, and the community. Governor proposing additional Paid Leave for state employees

From Steeley Franco

Frankfort, KY - To further position state government as the commonwealth's employer of choice, the Beshear-Coleman administration is preparing to make available six weeks of additional paid leave to eligible Executive Branch state employees who have serious health conditions or are welcoming a new child through birth, adoption or foster care.

The state's Personnel Cabinet intends to file an amendment to Title 101 of the Kentucky Administrative Regulations on December 16, 2024. The paid leave option is expected to be available to eligible employees as early as the summer of 2025. The proposed paid leave is an enhancement to the robust leave package currently available to Executive Branch state employees.

"We're seeing record-breaking economic growth and creating good-paying jobs. We're making sure our families can pay their bills at the end of each month. Part of this work includes making sure that Kentucky is leading the way when it comes to employee benefits," Gov. Beshear said. "I am proud that we are adding the option to obtain additional leave for when our employees are sick or welcoming a new family member. This is the right thing to do for our public servants who have dedicated their career to helping others."

Carol Perkins: The Perfectionist

Previous Column: Hip-Hop Nutcracker

By Carol Perkins

My perfectionist husband never leaves messes when he works on a project, puts his tools where they belong, and keeps the inside of his car spotless. His ability to follow a list without deviating from it is something he does with ease. It is unlike him to lose anything or haphazardly lay the mail anywhere but on his desk, which leads me to this contradictory behavior that I attribute to his retirement.

We went to Texas to see our son and his family, particularly to see our youngest, Noah, play basketball.

Normally, Jon has an extra vehicle, but this time, his extra one was in the shop, so we rented a Jeep SUV. Every time we got out of the car, I said, "Do you have the key?"
