Burn ban begins in Edmonton, Metcalfe County

METCALFE COUNTY FISCAL COURT EXECUTIVE ORDER: all outdoor burning is hereby banned in Metcalfe County

WHEREAS, drought conditions in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, have made it dangerous to have any form of outdoor burning, and the danger is imminent and irreparable harm might result from any delay, be it ordered and adjudged by the Metcalfe County Judge/Executive that all outdoor burning is hereby banned in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, until further notice.

This be it further ordered that this order may be enforced by the Kentucky Forestry Department, any official police department, rescue worker, fire department or any other person of authority who may receive evidence as to outdoor burning herein, and

Walter Ray Edwards, 72, Green County, KY

Walter Ray Edwards of Green County, Kentucky, son of the late Joseph Bryan Edwards and Martha Alice Arnett Edwards was born on Tuesday, May 20, 1952 in Green County and departed this life on Friday, September 13, 2024 in Green County. He was 72 years, 3 months, and 24 days of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Aetna Union Baptist Church. He loved fishing, bowling and was a big fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

James D. Garner, 71, Russell Springs, KY native

James D. Garner, 71, a native of Russell Springs, died September17, 2024. He was the son J.B. and Ella (Wheat) Garner and the husband of Libby D. Garner.

His parents, brother, and infant sister preceded him in death. There were no local services. Disposition of his remains were made in accordance with his wishes.

The Adair County Board of Education will meet at 6pmCT on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in the Adair County Board of Education building, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY.

In addition to regular business, items on the agenda include approval for out of state trips for the FFA and FBLA, updates to the Threat Assessment Decision Tree, approval to contract PRN Speech language Pathologist, approval of Student Athlete Wellness Coordinator stipend, and a working budget for the 2024-2025 school year.

All In for LWC begins Tuesday, September 17

At Lindsey Wilson College "Roots Run Deep." The annual "All In for LWC" 48-hour event to raise money for student aid begins today, September 17, 2024, and will last until midnight on Wednesday, September 18.

LWC takes great pride in the long-standing tradition it shares with generations of families and friends who consider themselves LWC Blue Raiders. This year the social media campaign dubbed All In For LWC celebrates those enduring relationships.

RSCO Sheriff: Deputy Josh Phipps died a Hero

A Grieving Message from your Sheriff, Family, Staff and Deputies...

It is with great sadness tonight/ this morning that I report to you the loss of one of my Deputies in the Line of Duty, Russell County Deputy Sheriff Josh Phipps. Kentucky State Police is conducting the investigation and will release more details as they become available.

Deputy Phipps was assisting Kentucky State Police and other Units looking for a suspect that had fled on foot. Gunfire was exchanged after locating the suspect; Deputy Phipps was struck by gunfire and later passed away at the Russell County Hospital.

Deputy Josh Phipps died a Hero doing what he liked, protecting and serving Russell County. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Phipps family. Please keep the Phipps family, friends, the Russell County Sheriff's Office family & staff in your prayers.

The suspect who was being sought also succumbed to gunfire.

Thank you to all First Responders who were there to help and support us. Thank you to Adair, Casey, Clinton, and Pulaski County Sheriffs Departments, Russell Springs Police, and Jamestown Police who have offered help and support in covering calls at this tragic time. Thanks to all Police Officers from cities across Kentucky who were there and reached out to our Community.

Little League Basketball sign-ups begin Tuesday

Little League Basketball and Cheerleading signups begin today, Tuesday, September 17, 2024, and continue until October 17, 2024. October 17th is deadline. Texts and calls after that date will be ignored.

Forms are separate for cheer and basketball. They can be picked up at ACES, ACPC, or Downey Eye Clinic. Signup forms and money (cash or check only) can be dropped off at Downey Eye Clinic, or there will be in person sign ups from 3pmCT to 5pmCT on September 23 and 25, 2024, and October 1, 2024, in the lobby at Adair County Elementary School, 870 Indian Dr, Columbia, KY.

If you are interested in your child being a part of the children with disabilities league on Saturday mornings please indicate on the form.

There will not be a Pre-K league offer this year. I did not have anyone interested in running the league and am not going back now.

Adair County's Gifted and Talented Students were scheduled to meet with Russell County for a TIP-KY (I-excel) meeting tonight, Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 5:30pmCT (invitations only--sent out to 4th-6th grade student) in Russell Springs, KY.

The meeting is cancelled due to a recent tragedy in our area. Thanks for understanding. It will be rescheduled at a later date.

KSP releases death of Russell County deputy Phipps

RCSO Deputy Josh Phipps was a 3-year veteran of the Russell County Sherrif's Office.

RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2024) - The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team has been requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on September 16, 2024 at approximately 5:27 p.m. CDT in Russell County.

KSP Post 15 and the Russell County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) were conducting an investigation on Bluebird Drive in the city limits of Russell Springs, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting incident. A male subject was transported to the hospital and has since been pronounced deceased. KSP detectives and CIRT responded and the investigation into incident remains ongoing.
