Shootings reported in Russell Springs Monday Tonight's Russell/Casey Volleyball game was cancelled due to a reported shooting. Parents are posting this game plus others and practice sessions were interrupted or cancelled. Law enforcement from multiple agencies are on the scene at Bluebird Drive in a neighborhood just south of the Cumberland Parkway. People are asked to avoid the area as law enforcement works the scene. Russell County Hospital is reported to be on lockdown. School has been dismissed for Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Larry Dale Cain, 57, Casey County, KY (1967-2024) Larry Dale Cain, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at his home. He was 57. Born on July 31, 1967, in Columbia, Kentucky, he was a son of Inez Vannoy Cain and the late Russell Glen Cain. Larry was of the Baptist faith. He worked in welding, farm labor, and vinyl siding work. He enjoyed music and fishing. Larry also loved his Amazon Alexa, as she always kept him updated on the time and the weather. Comments: from school experience in a hard lockdown Social media posts tell the stories of what it was like to be in school last week when threats caused what's called a 'hard lockdown' where all doors are locked, students shelter in place with lights off, and hide as if there is an active shooter. From former Adair County Judge Executive Gale Burris Cowan Parents, you should be extremely proud of your kids and the administration at Adair County Schools. I subbed today at the Adair County High School. I have only been subbing for two weeks and It was my first experience with a hard lockdown. I had to watch some video trainings, but I hadn't had drills. But let me tell you, the kids knew exactly what to do and the staff and law enforcement did what they were supposed to do to keep your kids safe. Kentucky Farm Safety and Health Week From Madison Pergrem Frankfort, KY - Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell has proclaimed September 15-21, 2024, as Farm Safety and Health Week in Kentucky to encourage farmers and farm workers to put their health and safety first at all times. Kentucky's farm safety week coincides with the National Farm Safety and Health Week. With a theme of "Don't Learn Safety by Accident," this week emphasizes the need to keep safety top of mind while on the farm. To raise awareness about the mental health resources available for farmers, the Kentucky House of Representatives recently passed House Resolution 59, which declares the Wednesday of Kentucky's Farm Safety and Health Week "Farmer Suicide Prevention Day" in Kentucky. To celebrate Kentucky's farmers, KDA is hosting the second annual Farmers Appreciation and Awards Day starting at 9:30amCT on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Western Kentucky University's L.D. Brown Ag Expo Center, 406 Elrod Rd, Bowling Green, KY. The day will honor farmers and their jobs, while also recognizing the risk they face in their day-to-day duties. The awards day, which was held in Frankfort last year, is designed to be moved throughout the state as the years proceed.
