School lockdown update from Supt. Faulkner

From Adair County Superintendent Jason Faulkner

I am reaching out to clarify the events that took place this morning at Adair County High School. This morning, school officials were informed that a student had reportedly brought a concealed weapon onto campus in their backpack. Due to safety protocols, we initiated a lockdown at all schools on the Adair County Campus.

During the lockdown, we conducted a comprehensive investigation of all students mentioned and found no evidence of any weapon on campus. After discussions with staff, students, and community members, we believe it is essential to implement additional safety measures.

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment for all students, we are introducing a significant change regarding the use of backpacks at Adair County Middle and High School.

Schools locked down Friday in Adair

From Adair County Superintendent Jason Faulkner

We had a student who made a report of a student having a gun on the high school campus. This turned out to be a false statement.

Once the school administration received this information, we immediately initiated our hard lockdown procedures.

We conducted a thorough investigation of all students involved and have determined that this threat is unsubstantiated. We have since moved from a Hard Lockdown to a soft lockdown. This means that the exterior doors will remain locked, and no students will be outside of the building for the remainder of the school day.

I understand that this is unnerving, and I apologize. Again, these are the measures that we have put in place to ensure that our students are safe.
