ACHS Indians ready for first football home game

Friday Night, the Adair County High School Indians football team is back in action as they host LaRue County in their home opener.

Adair County comes in 2-0 compared to LaRue who enters this game 0-2, with a 7-40 loss to Glasgow and a 12-42 loss to Hart County, most recently.

Breann Franklin joining Adair Tourism

Breann Franklin is the new consulting media marketing assistant for the Columbia-Adair County Welcome and Development Center serving the Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development and Tourism. Breann, a Lindsey Wilson College student, will be out in the community as well as in the office creating promotional content to showcase Columbia and Adair County.

Bill Gorin, Green County, KY (1942-2024)

William Hugh (Bill) Gorin, son of the late Henry Hugh (Shine) Gorin and Roxye O'Banion Gorin, was born on January 10, 1942 and departed this life at the age of 82 on August 26, 2024.

After attending high school in Greensburg, he attended Centre College graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts major in English and a minor in Economics. In 1967 he obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law and became a member of the Kentucky Law Journal. In 1968 he joined the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General's Corps assigned to the battleship USS New Jersey. However, before he had a chance to serve on the ship, the Vietnam war ended and the ship was decommissioned. After serving with both the Legislative Research Commission and the Kentucky Department of Health, he joined the Frankfort Law Firm, Stites, McElwain & Fowler in 1972 concentrating in mineral law.

Rotary scholarship open for applications

Global Grant Scholarship Rotary District 6710 is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for two $50,000 Global Grant Scholarships for graduate study during the 2025-2026 academic year at a university outside North America.

To be eligible for a Global Grant Scholarship, candidates must have residency in District 6710 (west of Lexington in Kentucky), present a plan of study and a career commitment that align with one of The Rotary Foundation's seven humanitarian areas of focus, be endorsed by a grant-qualified Rotary Club in District 6710, and provide a Letter of Acceptance (or a Letter of Affiliation) from the university where the scholar's study will take place.

Bobby C. Sneed, 84, Columbia, KY (1940-2024)

Bobby C. Sneed of Columbia died on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 10:07 P.M. at TJ Health/ Columbia Emergency Room. He was 84 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 2pmCT on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Paul Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 10amCT on Saturday.

Rhoda Sue Schubert, 83, Adair Co., KY native (1940-2024)

Rhoda Sue (Knifley) Schubert, of Wheaton, IL, died on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at her home. She was 83 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Adam Shepard officiating. Burial will follow in Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 11amCT on Sunday.

Free Caregivers Conference on September 11th

There will be a free Caregivers Conference from 9amCT to NoonCT on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY.

Speakers: Dale Smothers, Founder and President of RDS Wealth Management, will be speaking on financial information for caregivers, and Shellie May, Executive Director of the Office Senior Protection, will be speaking on scams and consumer protection.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided and all are welcomed to attend.

Absentee Ballot portal opens Sept 21

Saturday, September 21, 2024, will be the first day voters can request an absentee ballot for the 2024 Kentucky General Election.

Voter must have one of the designated reasons to request an Absentee Ballot, as described here: Eligibility for Absentee Voting. Ballots must be returned by 6pm local time on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

The online mail-in absentee request portal is at govote.ky.gov. If you do not have access to a computer, you may call the Adair County Clerks Office, during normal business days, Monday-Friday 8amCT to 4pmCT, at 270-384-2801. Be prepared to provide requested information.

The last day to request an absentee ballot for the 2024 Kentucky General Election is Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Boil Water Advisory issued for Montpelier Road area

Update: Boil Water Advisory lifted for Montpelier Road area

Date Issued 9/5/2024
Time Issued 10:40 A.M.

A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for all consumers on 61-1533 Montpelier Road, Keen Wilson Road, Combest Drive, and Harlon Brown Road. The advisory has been issued due to a main line break.

Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. For more information concerning the Boil Water Advisory, contact Bradley Miller at Columbia Adair Utilities District, 270-384-2181.

Ruth Conner, 92, Russell County, KY (1932-2024)

Ruth Conner, 92, of Jamestown, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Fair Oaks Health Systems.

Ruth was born in McQueary County, on August 28, 1932, a daughter of the late Margaret Marlar and Edwin Wisdom. She was a homemaker.

Trinity Women's Conference on September 14

You're invited to the 2024 Womens Conference that will be held from 9amCT to 1pmCT on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Trinity Church.

The theme for this year's conference is "Walk in the Light, the scripture from I John 1:7". The speaker for the conference is Sherri Johnson. Sherri is a woman of great faith and believes in the power of prayer. Her love for God shines brightly. Our worship leader will be our own Karen Pescosolido along with our Contemporary Worship Praise Team. Lunch will be provided.

Tickets are $25, and sign in will begin at 8:30amCT. You may order tickets online at belongattrinity.org, or pay in person as you sign in. We encourage you to come and be a part of this day as we worship God together. May we Walk in the Light that all may see His love through us.
