Russell Co. Airport to be part of proposed study

From Naitore Djigbenou/Allen Blair

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky is proud to partner on preparing general aviation airports in Appalachia for the future of electric aircraft thanks to a $500,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) awarded to Ohio University.

The state of Kentucky, Ohio and North Carolina, North Carolina State University, local airport officials and researchers are all grant partners. The team will work to evaluate technology needs at 36 general aviation airports -- half of which are in Kentucky, including the airport in Russell County. The grant also aims to expand the already vital economic and public service role of aviation in the region.

"Kentucky is already the electric vehicle battery production capital of the world, and by participating in this project we're working to become a leader in the aircraft industry of the future," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "By bringing new jobs, technologies and industries to Kentucky we're making sure our children never have to leave home to chase their dreams." The Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies (ARISE) grant is a product of the historic federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to strengthen economic opportunities through multi-state collaborative projects.

CCN Community Fundraiser Indoor Yard Sale

From Rhea Allinson

Columbia Church of the Nazarene is having a Community Fundraiser Yard Sale on Friday, August 30, and Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 9amCT to 5pmCT each day.

There will be no set prices on the items, everything will be donation only, except a small section set aside from a individual that will be priced and half of this money goes to the kids, all the money made will go to bless the children who attend our church and all children are welcome.

We are the community church, the inner city church, we feed them Wednesday nights and I'm wanting to bless the kids with a hotdog roller machine so the hotdogs will be yummier. I'm also wanting to get them a popcorn machine, a SnoCone machine, and several other things. We will have something for everyone: clothing, decor, vintage items, toys, so come on out bless some kids and be blessed yourself.

Wheat Fellowship Hall is located at 1200 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY. Go straight past Speedway, past the expressway, and it's a large red brick building set off the road, like you're going to the Animal Shelter.

Speaking of the 2024 election...

By Linda Waggener

Speaking of election day - this 2024 election is a big one, nationally and statewide.

Our family will be studying the issues within the two ordinances we have the opportunity to vote on in Adair and surrounding counties and invite comments to help voters be clear on what their choice will mean to us in the future.

Comments are welcome if they can be helpful to all readers - no party affiliation information is needed because it really doesn't matter if we are registered one way or another, we all get to be neighbors and we have the most fun when we can agree to disagree politely and remain friends. You'll find the word "Comments" below each story that takes you to the connections.
