Letter: Please take care of our American flag

Chris Lagermann writes from the American Legion, Metcalfe Co. KY:
About the American flag - please take a moment and check out the flag you are displaying in honor of our country. If it looks faded or frayed, run, don't walk (or you can drive) to the store and purchase a new one.

Take time to drop the old one off at the Justice Center in the designated container for proper disposal. If you would like a booklet on properly displaying the American flag, your local American Legion Post 65 has them for free. Contact chrislogs@hotmail.com.

Phillip Coffey - At The Post

AT THE POST - By Phillip Wood Coffey

"Well, we're all 'at the post each and every day"
He wryly said to his innocent, younger son
With whatever that must be, tied together or won

Whether it be for God or his sacrificed, holy one
Mixed with the reality of living from sun-up
To "sundowners" in the late evening
Of the elder's deepest of tragedy to overcome.

"Walk briskly in your short spell of youthfulness
Kicking those heels highly - having much fun."
Next thing you know, all is merely task to be
methodically done.

"Remember always - for Christ and fellow man
And creatures below, 'render to each whatever
Is required that is required by the scriptures
In the very beginning-foretold."

VFW seeks local WWII Veterans

From Joe Hare

VFW Columbia Post 6097 is in search of any and all WWII veterans that are living in Adair County. These veterans are "the great generation" and we wish to know who and where you are in the community. Any Adair Countians that live out of town we would also like this info.

We are looking for this info only so that we would be able to honor these vets from time to time. The information is for our use and would go no further than our post. We are asked quite often about our WWII veterans by the public.

If you or one of your loved ones would like to send this info to us you may do so by contacting Joe Hare, 304 Jamestown St, Columbia, KY, or by email at jlhare1@gmail.com, or call or text 270-634-0285.

Letter: The real heroes

Chris Bennett writes:
So the real heroes in this story is our local utility workers. Tyler Edwards is our local KU service man, I forwarded that story to him Saturday morning and he took care of it Monday. Tyler is from Green County where his father Mike works for Taylor County RECC. Both are great to deal with, top notch guys!

We are really lucky to have good electrical utility workers in our area, KU and Taylor County RECC both have a great crew of guys that to be honest have a real tough job. When the weather is terrible, when it is the coldest, when it is the wettest, when it is the hottest and it is almost always at night. They are out trying to get our lights back on. As the local electrical inspector I deal with these guys on a daily basis and trust me when I tell you that as a community we are blessed to have the guys that we do.
