BAVFD presents awards at annual Christmas event By Amanda Scott The Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department recently held its annual Christmas dinner and awards presentations. Eight members of the fire department were reconized for serving 25 consecutive years. The Firefighter of the year and Recurit firefighter of the year also received awards at the dinner, the recipient of those awards are voted on by the fire department members, they are asked to vote on firefighters that show pride, enthusiasm, integrity and professionalism. J.P. Warner, 95, Casey County, KY (1928-2024) James P. "J.P." Warner, of Liberty, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at his home. He was 95. He loved farming and his dairy and beef cattle. He greatly enjoyed gardening and grew many crops of tobacco and corn over the years. In the past, he had worked as a mail handler for the railroad for ten years. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Separate Baptist Church where he was also a former Sunday School teacher. J.P. was a sociable man that loved people and truly never met a stranger. Winter weather begins Monday night with strong winds The National Weather Service (NWS) has advised that a strong storm system will sweep across Kentucky Monday evening, bringing high winds and rain. Then on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning we expect a chance for a wintry mix in the north-central, east-central and south-central parts of the state. JOY Ministries Extends Annual Campaign From Hannah Peck J.O.Y. Ministries entered their annual Christmas Campaign in late November with their most ambitious goal to date. The organization set out to raise $75,000, which would fund J.O.Y.'s operation budget for the upcoming year. One week into the new year and J.O.Y.'s campaign total stands at $60,355 - just shy of $15,000 from their goal. As such, they are extending their campaign to January 19. "We will operate on whatever God provides, but we know what is needed to continue to meet needs as we have in the last year. As such, we are calling on our community to help push us towards our goal!" shares J.O.Y. Vice President, Hannah Peck. "We cannot adequately express our gratitude for the support this community has shown us. We continue to stand in awe of His goodness." J.O.Y. Ministries operates two homeless shelters and a Crisis Resource Center. Basketball: LWC Men 105-93 over Clinton The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team wrapped up non-conference play with a 105-93 victory over Clinton College Sunday at Biggers Sports Center. The Blue Raiders are back in action on Thursday when they travel to No. 3 Georgetown for their Mid-South Conference opener at 6:30pmCT. Sunday marked the second time this season the Blue Raiders (8-6) scored over 100 points. Lindsey Wilson had three players score 20 or more points in a game for the first time since February 8, 2020. The Blue Raiders recorded 60 rebounds for the second time this season. Wind Advisory issued for Monday night into Tuesday Mike Keltner, Director of Adair Co. Emergency Management sends word of the possibility of severe weather. The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY, issued the following statement early Monday morning: The next weather system will move into the Ohio Valley late today, through Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. Winds will increase overnight into Tuesday morning. A Wind Advisory is in effect from late tonight into tomorrow morning. Gusts of 40 mph or more are possible with in the advisory area and gusts of 30-40 mph outside of the area. Winds will diminish but remain breezy during the day Tuesday before another round of gusty winds occur Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.This system will also bring some beneficial rain to the area, with expected precipitation of 1-2 inches.
