Bald Eagle stirred good memories, touched the heart Larry Baker was driving in the Sano community of Adair County to work on his late father-in-law's home, missing him. Suddenly, in Larry's view, there was an American Bald Eagle - the first one he'd ever seen here. The bird was in a field beside Allen's Schoolhouse Road. Larry writes, "I'm so blessed to have spotted this just now, on my way to my father-in-law's home. He loved and collected eagles until he passed away last year from an unfortunate incident. Junior White, 59, Metcalfe County, KY (1964-2024) Junior Kervin White, 59, of Edmonton passed away peacefully Friday, January 5, 2024. He was born September 20, 1964, to the late Ferry White and Bessie Short Lewis who survives. Junior worked for the Edmonton Police Department and retired after 30 years of service to his community. He loved helping people, going fishing, and playing his guitar and banjo. Letter: Anise Seed is NOT Star Anise Comments re: Letter: Star anise and dogs By Marie Freeman I appreciate your post so we can clarify--never give a canine Star Anise. Anise seed in proper safe amounts for pets is widely used. I might add the anise seed a nice surprise for me not only for my canine, but also added to homemade bread :-) Star Anise and Anise Seed are not related. Star Anise comes from an evergreen shrub. Anise seed is related to parsley, these two plants are not from the same plant family--star anise is from the magnolia whereas anise seed is from the parsley family. Julita was a retired factory worker and a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church. She was a good cook and she dearly loved her grandchildren. Letter: Columbia Square Signage By James Roberts I have an idea to help alleviate the signage being constantly destroyed on the Columbia Square. It may or may not be feasible to install an aluminum pole on each side of the four crosswalks to hang over with signage on both sides going and coming from the square. This would allow for more directional signage to be displayed. Also putting a strong cable between the buildings would work, but the older brick buildings on the square may not be strong enough to support it. MEDIATION requested right now at Fiscal Court By Linda Waggener As a citizen of Adair County, at the end of only one of four years into this present Fiscal Court administration, I request a mediator be hired immediately. We are in an emergency situation as evidenced by actions that crashed the December 28, 2023 meeting before work was done. The pattern of disagreement and bad behavior only worsened from the very first meeting to the last regular meeting of the year. The leaders of our government must be able to participate in civil discourse. The difference between civil discourse and what happened at the December meeting seems as wide as the span of the Grand Canyon. It's time for a time out. It's time for a restart.
