Ferguson Jeffries of Savoyard, Kentucky, was born on Wednesday, April 19, 1961 in Glasgow and passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at T.J. Samson Hospital. Grant Applications open in Waste Management The Energy and Environment Cabinet's Division of Waste Management is accepting grant applications for projects that develop recycling and composting infrastructure or offer education programs, and for household hazardous waste (HHW) collection events. Local governments, solid waste management districts, public schools, universities and colleges are eligible to apply Waste Management is accepting grant before April. Applications with regional projects are given priority. Each grant requires a 25 percent local match. Earl Bennett, 88, Adair County, KY (1936-2024) Earl G. Bennett, age 88, of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, January 01 2024 at T.J. Health Care, Columbia, KY. He was retired from the United States Navy after 34 years of service retiring as a "Hull Technician Master Chief Master Diver." Once retiring he came back to his home community of Sano living for over 30 years where he worked as a farmer, raising cattle, growing his own crops including hay and corn and tobacco. Columbia Gas Department 2023 accomplishments By Mayor Pamela Hoots in her Annual Review The Columbia Gas Department had around twenty new customers sign up in the past year. We strive to ensure that our gas service rate is competitive and favorable to our consumers. We received a grant for gas expansion from the Appalachian Research Commission. The new gas line will assist with service to the new Franklin Ford location; a state of the art facility, which will provide around twenty new jobs for our town. Little League Basketball/Cheerleader reminder From Daniel Hedges Please remember, if Adair County Public Schools are cancelled, then all Little League Basketball games will be off for that day. In the event of a Sunday game and inclement weather, I will confer with the appropriate officials and announce games either on or cancelled by no later than 10amCT on Sunday. (Preferably on Saturday evening I will make a decision on Sunday games, and at times this decision may be readily apparent.) All of the above applies to Pre-K on Saturday mornings and cheerleading, too. In the event of snow, makeup times for pictures and any gameday will be announced. FAFSA workshops offered Jan 9 and Jan 11 FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid must be submitted to receive any financial assistance, for any postsecondary institution, and the process can be tough to navigate. ACHS Senior Parents are invited to either of two workshops to submit your senior's FAFSA, make corrections or finish verification. FAFSA Day appointments are available from 8amCT to 2:30pmCT on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, and FAFSA Night appointments are available from 4pmCT to 6pmCT on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in the Library at Adair County High School, 526 Indian Dr, Columbia, KY. Appointments can be made at www.signupgenius.com. Parents will need to bring a 2022 Tax Return and an FSA ID, which can be created at studentaid.gov.
