Gold enters Class of 2027 Plebe Summer at US Naval Academy Annapolis, MD - Jonathan Gold was inducted into the Naval Academy Class of 2027 on June 29, 2023. This marked the beginning of six challenging weeks of basic midshipman training during Plebe Summer. Gold is the son of Neal and Harriet Gold. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Adair County High School in 2023. Approximately 1,200 candidates are selected each year for the Academy's "plebe" or freshman class, and each student is required to participate in Plebe Summer. During this time, plebes have no access to television, movies, the internet, or music and restricted access to cell phones. They are only permitted to make three calls during the six weeks of Plebe Summer. The pressure and rigor of Plebe Summer is carefully designed to help plebes prepare for their first academic year at the Naval Academy and the four years of challenge that awaits them. KY 1243 Bridge in Metcalfe Co. set for temporary closure From Wes Watt The bridge over South Fork Little Barren on KY 1243 (mile point 3.4) in Metcalfe County will temporarily close during daytime hours beginning next week. The bridge will close on Monday, July 31 through Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 8amCT to 4pmCT daily. A detour using KY 543 and U.S. 68 will be in place. The members of the church kicked off their efforts for the 2023 Operation Christmas Child packing season on Tuesday night, July 25, 2023, when they hosted their annual July Packing Party. The church was able to pack 367 boxes to jump start efforts for 2023. County approves half percent payroll tax By Vicky Pike A 3/4 percent tax failed early in the Fiscal Court meeting on Wednesday night, July 25, 2023. The vote was 6-2, with Terry Hadley and Judge Bryant voting for, and all other magistrates voting against. At the last minute, in other business or comments, Daryl Flatt proposed another ordinance that would be 1/2 percent for the first year, and the second year to 1/4 percent, with possibility of looking at it then to see if that amount will work for the second year.
