Lawrence Junior Foley, 94, Russell County, KY (1929-2023) Lawrence Junior Foley, of Russell Springs, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in Jamestown. He was 94 years of age. Born on April 19, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was a son of the late Lawrence Wickliff and Marie Evelyn Eary Foley. Lawrence was a former US Navy veteran and a retired inspector at G.E. with over 35 years of service. He was a member and deacon at Coffey Hill Friendship Church. Lawrence enjoyed fishing and was an avid wrestling and Cincinnati Reds fan. KELC releases June 2023 Unemployment Report From Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary June 2023 unemployment rate was 3.8%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet (KELC). The preliminary June 2023 jobless rate was unchanged from May 2023 and was down 0.1 percentage points from one year ago. The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for June 2023 was 3.6%, which was down 0.1 percentage points from May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Donny Grider, 75, Casey County, KY (1948-2023) Donny Grider, age 75, passed away at his home on July 16, 2023. He graduated from Casey County High School in 1967. Following graduation, he served for two years with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He married Gwen Thompson, and they celebrated 55 years in January. He was a salesman, a soil conservation board member, farmer, and a member of Middleburg Baptist Church. Health information shared at July Chamber meeting Jeff Neagle, Communications Specialist for the Lake Cumberland District Health Department, was the guest speaker at the July Columbia Adair, Chamber of Commerce meeting. Before sharing updates about the Health Department, he shared about having grow up in downtown Columbia when his grandfather Haley Neagle was Jailer, and remembered the good things the community did for an eight year old boy. He went to college and moved away for his career but says he still always feels very close to his home.
