Blood Drive July 26 at Columbia Church of Christ

Kentucky Blood Center will host a blood drive from 11amCT to 3:30pmCT on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in the Columbia Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 501 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY. The Primary Blood Drive Chairperson is Ricky Collins.

It's trauma season in Kentucky, a period of months in the summer when good times and good weather usher in an increase in severe, life-threatening injuries. Traumas like car accidents can have a major impact on the blood supply, and KBC is currently experiencing an increase in blood transfusions while donor turnout lags. Traumas can often require more than 50 units of blood for a single patient.

KBC is calling on Kentuckians to step up and save local patients' lives. As a thank you for donating blood, KBC will provide all donors at this upcoming drive with a $10 Walmart gift card (while supplies last).

Appointments are preferred and walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.

Letter: Helicopters spraying crops

Jill Petrey writes:
I was hoping some of your readers could share their knowledge about the many helicopters I have seen lately in Green and Taylor counties and probably many other places. They sweep low to the ground, spraying crops. I'm sure this is convenient and beneficial, but I am just concerned about how safe it can be if they are spraying chemicals into the air. Is it harmful? How far do the particles travel? Please share, because if I'm wondering, there may be others wondering as well.
If you have answers for Jill, please use our Comment Form to share.
