Scouts in Troop 185 home from Camp Crooked Creek From Ty Coleman, Senior Patrol Leader Troop 185 just returned from Boy Scout camp. Camp is one of the activities the troop looks forward to the most. This year we went to Camp Crooked Creek in Shepherdsville, KY. Camp offers a wide selection of merit badges and fun evening activities. Our troop was represented by six of our members. Each scout had an opportunity to earn up to six merit badges. Merit badges are awards earned by scouts when requirements are completed related to a certain topic such as woodworking and photography. Some merit badges that our troop completed were small boat sailing, welding, first aid, pioneering, and shot gun. Other activities scouts enjoyed included riding ATVs and climbing a high ropes course. KAFC approves loans in Adair, Taylor Counties From Lisa Tolliver Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation (KAFC) approved $3,203,498 for 18 agricultural loans for projects across the commonwealth at its July board meeting, including a Diversification through Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness loan totaling $130,000 for a recipient in Adair County, and $102,000 Beginning Farmer Loan Program loan for a recipient in Taylor County. Legislative committee issues report on juvenile justice From Mike Wynn, LRC Frankfort, KY - The Legislative Oversight and Investigations Committee has approved more than two dozen recommendations to help stabilize Kentucky's troubled juvenile justice system following fires and a riot at two state detention centers last year. In a report adopted Friday, the committee is calling for more top-down oversight of detention facilities, more training for staff, better monitoring of staff grievances and work hours, and improved tracking of offenders and serious incidents.
