Baptist Heritage Lecture - shy member of Trinity

By Gerard Flanagan, news writer and photographer,
Office of University Communications

Throughout their 400-year history, Baptists have received criticism for not focusing enough on the Holy Spirit - the third person of the Trinity.

So, do Baptists indeed have a "shy" member of the Trinity?

Dr. Doug Weaver, interim chair of the Department of Religion and professor of Baptist studies at Baylor University, explored this question during the spring semester's annual Baptist Heritage Lecture at Campbellsville University.

"I grew up in a Baptist church, and maybe there was a shy member of the Trinity, I don't know," Weaver said. "We did sing the doxology every Sunday. The church I go to now still does sing the doxology every Sunday, and the last line of the doxology, you may know, sings about the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

Severe storms possible Sunday afternoon or evening

From Mike Keltner, Director
Adair Co. Emergency Management

The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY, has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of south central Indiana and Central Kentucky that includes Adair and all surrounding counties:
Expect more clusters of thunderstorms today, with strong to severe storms possible this afternoon into this evening. Damaging winds will be the main threat, with large hail and locally heavy rain also possible. We can't rule out a tornado either. The Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) is driven mainly by the higher probability of damaging wind gusts, rather than the magnitude of any severe hazard.

While any time today is fair game for thunderstorms, the most likely time frame for strong or severe storms will be from 1pmCT to 9pmCT.

The information was last updated at 11:48amET on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

The Golden Rule

From Billy Joe Fudge

Each elected member of our Adair County Fiscal Court has a responsibility, and indeed a duty, to carry on the people's business with dignity and grace. When an individual member fails to exercise that "responsibility and duty" a shadow is cast over our fiscal court and Adair County as a whole. It is time for each of us to put our pride and self-interest aside and strive to settle our differences and legislate with The Golden Rule in our minds and hearts.
