Comment: Don't make Public Square traffic worse

By Joyce Coomer

Daddy taught me to jaywalk when I was five or six years old. He explained about crosswalks, traffic lights, turning lanes, parked cars, and a lot of other things. The one thing I remember most distinctly, probably because he repeated it so much, was to NEVER step into a crosswalk, or anywhere, on a city street, or even on a gravel road, without first stopping, looking both ways at least twice (preferably more), and if there was oncoming traffic, DO NOT step into any sort of roadway until the vehicles had either passed by or had come to a complete stop.

He also told me that just because a vehicle had stopped, that didn't mean there was no longer any danger of being run over, as either a driver's inattentiveness or vehicular malfunction could come into play.

Happy heavenly anniversary to Marsha Roberts

Happy 37th anniversary on June 27th to my one true love, Marsha Roberts. We miss you more than words can say. But I know we’ll be together again some day. I dream often that you have came back to us here. Then I awaken and know that your not near. Rejoice with the angels for where you are. Then I realize your not that far. We took the vow until death do us part. But I knew where you were from the start. Rest now my love until we never part. - James Roberts

Portable generator should only be used outside

From Mike Keltner, Director,
Adair Co. Emergency Management

Many in the public will choose to use portable generators when power goes out, use them to power pumps, sump systems, and other means of removing water from premises.

Although portable generators are life-saving tools in times of emergency -- if used improperly -- they can also be deadly. Year after year, people suffer carbon monoxide poisoning due to improper usage of portable generators.

Information and preparedness can help prevent tragedy.

We urge you to consider how vital it is for owners to develop a plan BEFORE they use their portable generator.

Power still out for many in Russell County

South Kentucky RECC crews continue working to restore power in Russell County. Currently they report over 3,000 residents remain without power after the storms.

All available crews are working and they hope to make significant progress today. The broken pole total is up to 25 with several of those being in concentrated areas that had more severe damage.

SKRECC reminds everyone that if a downed power line is spotted, treat it as though it is energized and stay away! A downed line isn't always a dead one.
