Vernon Richerson, 83, Campbellsville, KY (1939-2023)

Vernon "Bum" Richerson of Campbellsville died at 12:01 A.M., on Sunday, June 18, 2023. He was 83 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmET on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, officiated by Rev. Steve Skaggs. Burial will follow in St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 5pmET until 8pmET on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.

City Council to hold Special Called Meeting on Friday

The Columbia City Council special called meeting which had been scheduled for 11:30amCT on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, will now be held at 11:30amCT on Friday, June 23, 2023, in City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY.

Items on the agenda include second readings of ordinances related to the budget and annexation of territory located at the city of Columbia's southwestern boundary, and appointment of City Attorney.

ACSO: Injury accident on Dunville Road

On Monday, June 19, 2023, at 9:45amCT, Deputy Chris Tweedy received a call of an injury accident 14 miles east of Columbia.

Upon arrival and preliminary investigation, it was found that Danielle Luttrell, 38, of Columbia, was traveling on Dunville Rd. in a 2006 Toyota Sienna van. The vehicle hydroplaned due to standing water on the roadway, leaving the roadway and striking a tree.

Luttrell was treated on scene by Adair EMS, and Air Medical was called but declined due to weather. Luttrell was transported to TJ Health Columbia, where she was then transported to University of Louisville hospital by Adair County EMS.

Rufus Lowell (Bill) Turner, 67, Columbia, KY (1955-2023)

Rufus Lowell "Bill" Turner of Columbia passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Greenhill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greensburg, KY. He was 67 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster and Bro. Terry England officiating. Burial will follow in the Bearwallow Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue Friday morning at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Milltown Church will host "Lava Lava Luau" Vacation Bible School on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, June 28, 29 and 30, 2023, beginning each night at 6pmCT/7pmET.

Keeping cool when things get hot! Emotions are like a volcano that erupts, but with God's help, we can learn to take control of our emotions! At the Luau, we'll see what God's Word says about anger, jealousy, frustration, and learn how we can respond with kindness.

Come join us on the island for a Bible lesson, craft, music, games and a meal each evening.

4-H Photography Class for Floral Hall Entries

Adair County 4-H will be offering a 4-H Photography class from 10amCT to 1pmCT on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY.

The class will be taught by 4-H alumni and 4-H State Fair Exhibitor Mackenzie Bennett. Youth will learn how to prepare photos for entry in the 4-H Floral Hall on July 25, 2023. Lunch will be provided.

Polston pleads guilty to menacing, obstruction charges

On Monday, June 19, 2023, John M. Polston appeared before Special Judge Greg Lay and entered guilty pleas to two charges stemming from an incident that occurred in July 2021, in Cumberland County, when Polston confronted Circuit Judge David L. Williams over another case involving Polston in Monroe County.

Polston was originally charged with Retaliating Against a Participant in the Legal Process and Menacing in Cumberland Circuit Court.

Pursuant to an agreement reached with the Commonwealth, Polston pled guilty to an amended charge of Obstruction of Governmental Operations and to Menacing.

75 Years of Service and Protection from the KSP

Frankfort, KY - On June 19, 2023, Gov. Andy Beshear joined state and local leaders to celebrate 75 years of the Kentucky State Police (KSP) enhancing public safety by creating safer communities as one of the nation's premier law enforcement agencies.

"For 75 years, the state police have served our commonwealth and our families, making this state a safer place to call home," said Gov. Beshear. "As Governor and as a dad, I am grateful for all our KSP heroes. Their sacrifice and commitment to all Kentuckians is second to none."

KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. highlighted several celebratory events KSP has hosted, including a 75th Anniversary Ball for employees and retirees, a wrapped Dodge Charger cruiser with a blue and white paint scheme from the 1970s, a challenge coin and other custom-designed items to mark the momentous occasion.

Bowling Park 4th of July Celebration

If you love fireworks, food, and a fun time save the date, Friday, June 30, 2023, and celebrate the 4th early in Metcalfe County at George K. Bowling Park, 1608 W. Stockton St., Edmonton, KY.

Contests will begin at 6pmCT, and fireworks will start at dark. Parking and entry are free, and concessions will be available for purchase. Activities include inflatables, horseshoes, a 3-legged race, a sack race, a watermelon eating contest, corn hole, and live music by The Hornet Nest Pickers.

Public Square traffic meeting July 6th at City Hall

A meeting is scheduled with the District 8 Highway Department to discuss traffic concerns in the City of Columbia, and specifically those relative to the public square.

The meeting is open to the public. Residents with comments and/or concerns, are encouraged to attend the meeting stated Mayor Pamela Hoots.

Mallory Frye, Planning Engineer, and Amanda Parmley, Traffic Engineer, with the District 8 Transportation Cabinet Office will be in Columbia on Thursday, July 6, at 10amCT for the meeting which will be held in City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street.

Adair County 4-H & Cloverbud Floral Hall Exhibits

Floral Hall exhibits will be entered on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 10amCT to NoonCT. Entries will be taken at the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service located at 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY.

Adair County youth ages 9-18 are encouraged to enter their 4-H projects at the Adair County Fair. Age is based on the youth's age as of January 1 of the calendar year of the Fair. Cloverbud youth (ages 5-8) may display their exhibits also during the County Fair. There will also be a Cloverbud category for youth ages 1-4 years old. For non-animal-based projects, the Adair County Fair is the qualifying event for youth to advance to the Kentucky State Fair.

Timmy Wayne England, Green County, KY (1961-2023)

Timmy Wayne England of the Summersville community of Green County, Kentucky, son of the late Clurell and Aurthelia "Tillie" Elmore England, was born on February 1, 1961 in Glasgow, Kentucky. He departed this life on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 in Greensburg, Kentucky having attained the age of 62 years, four months and nineteen days.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. He was a lifelong farmer.
