Grants announced for Recycling, Household Hazardous Waste From John Mura/Robin Hartman Frankfort, KY - On Friday, June 16, 2023, Governor Andy Beshear and Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Goodman announced $6.5 million in grants to local governments, fiscal courts and universities for 76 projects to expand recycling, reduce the amount of solid waste going into landfills and improve the handling of household hazardous waste. Russell County Fiscal Court was awarded a $157,279.32 Recycling grant, and Adair County was awarded a $9,000.00 Household Hazardous Waste grant. Gov. Beshear announced 33 recycling grants worth a little over $4.1 million, 33 household hazardous waste grants worth $905,241 and 10 composting grants worth $1.48 million. These grants require a 25 percent local match in the form of cash or in-kind labor, educational activities or advertising to promote the program from those receiving the awards. RCAWL Cats-only Spay and Neuter Clinic The Russell Co. Animal Welfare League is taking appointments for neutering of male cats at their Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Cats-only Spay and Neuter Clinic. The cost for surgery is $45/cat. Services included are spay/neuter, a yearly booster vaccination, and a rabies vaccination (if age appropriate). The clinic will be held at the DAV (formerly the VFW), 155 Owenstown School Road, Russell Springs, KY. Note: there are no remaining appointments for female cats for the June 21 clinic. We do still have many open appointments for male cats. We have grant funds available for Russell County pet guardians age 65 and older. My reply, "I went today." He smiled and tried to climb out of the hole he dug. "Looks the same to me as before you went." I said, "I'll be sure and tell Benny (my hairdresser) next week!" Sometimes when I come home from the beauty shop, he'll say, "Had that hair cut, didn't you?" My answer. "Yes, two weeks ago." He isn't observant, but thinks he is. Often on Sunday mornings when I try to "fix up" a little more than usual, he will say, "I like that outfit. Is it new?"
