Billy Wayne Brown, 76, Cumberland County, KY

Billy Wayne Brown, of the Whites Bottom Community in Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, having attained the age of 76 years, 4 months & 22 days. He was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky on Sunday, August 18, 1946.

The son of Jimmy and Madie Sharp Brown, he was a machinist for Bridgeport Brass, a Christian, and attended The Burkesville Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Short and an infant brother, Douglas Lynn Brown.

Boil Water Advisory issued

Update: Boil Water Advisory lifted

Date Issued 1/11/2023
Time Issued 1:30 p.m.


A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for consumers on 1562-4566 Weed Sparksville Road, Richard Road, Leatherwood Church Road, 7784-1350 Edmonton Road & all side roads in between. The advisory has been issued due to a main line leak.

Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure.

Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using. This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality.

Celebration of Life for Jamie Lynn Carroll on Jan 15

Mt. Zion Community Church will be celebrating the life of Jamie Lynn Carroll this Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 2pmCT. Please come out and celebrate Jamie's life with friends and family.

Jamie Lynn Carroll, 42, of Columbia, Ky. departed this life on October 28, 2022. She is survived by her mother and father, Glenda Carroll and Lawrence Carroll, and also a daughter, Kandace Carroll, three grandchildren, and a brother, Tommy Wheeler of Columbia.

Mt. Zion Community Church is located at 100 Buell Collins Rd., Columbia, KY.

Troop 185 wins young scouts division in Klondike Derby

My Scout troop has just returned from an event called the Klondike Derby. It was an event held at Camp Crooked Creek near Bernheim Forest. This event is held every year and is competitive.

Our troop was required to make a sled using lashings and pull it around the camp during the competition. Scattered around the camp were 10 different stations. At each station we had to complete an activity to continue.

Eudoxie Hopper Goff, 97, Russell Springs, KY (1925-2023)

Eudoxie Hopper Goff of Russell Springs passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, January 8, 2023, at the Russell County Hospital. She was 97 years old.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11amCT on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Fairview Baptist Church, with Bro. Bill Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5pmCT until 8pmCT on Thursday, January 12, 2023, and will continue after 8amCT until time of services on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Fairview Baptist Church.

Guest speaker Lee Ann Jessee represented J.O.Y. Ministries at the January Chamber of Commerce meeting with a report of the charity's accomplishments helping those in need and a thank-you to the community for its support. Her talk included the following comments:

Deuteronomy 15:11 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you. "you shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor in your land.

Missionary to Ukraine speaks at Campbellsville University

Campbellsville, KY - Mina Podgaisky, a missionary to Ukraine, spoke recently at a Campbellsville University chapel about how Christ can do what seems impossible and the essence of following His calling.

Podgaisky read from Mark 6:36-37, the story of how Christ performed the miracle of feeding 5,000 people to emphasize how God can do what seems like the impossible.

Sano warrant results in three arrests

On 1-10-2023 at 05:47am Adair County 911 received a call from Kentucky State Police requesting the sheriffs office respond to the Sano community to a reported Breaking and Entering complaint.
