Genealogy and History Research Center has a good year By Mike Watson We at the Research Center strive to assist those who have an interest in local history and genealogy. We opened our doors on 23 April 2021 and celebrated with an official ribbon cutting event exactly one year later, in 2022. The calendar year 2022 was just as exciting as 2021, perhaps more so in some ways. We have had visitors and researchers from many states, many Kentucky counties, as well as local and regional friends. Several professional writers have used the resources here to produce articles, and books are now in print with more coming in the coming later this year and in 2024. Basketball: LWC Men conquer road woes to defeat Wilberforce Wilberforce, OH - At Gaston Lewis Gymnasium, the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team overcame an 11-point deficit against the homestanding Bulldogs, emerging victorious, 79-76, to clinch its first road win of the season and snap a five-game losing skid. In the dramatic final minute, Wilberforce got the edge off a deep three-pointer, but the Blue Raiders were swift to respond with a go-ahead lay-up by Johrdon Mumford with 46 seconds on the clock. From there, the local's defense forced a stop to get the ball back, and Jackson Harlan went on to knock down two clutch free throws to ice the game. The late heroics capped off an exciting second half that saw Lindsey Wilson outscore the Bulldogs, 49-37, after trailing by nine at the break. It is the second different outing this campaign in which the Blue Raiders came out on top after falling behind in the opening half. Adair Co. fixtures featured in local art show Adair County Arts Council member Karen Roland is featuring her Plein Air paintings in an upcoming show opening on Monday at the Lucretia Begley Gallery in Slider Hall at Lindsey Wilson College. There will be a reception at the gallery with light refreshments at 6pmCT on Thursday, January 12, 2023. The show runs through February 17, 2023, with a gallery talk with the artist scheduled for 2pmCT on February 16, 2023. "Heart Bypass--Redeeming Old Kentucky Through Plein Air," is an homage to once beloved places that were the Heart of communities before the building of the super highways that all but passed them by.
