KSP charges Adair Co. man with solicitation of murder From Trooper Jonathan Houk On January 3, 2023, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 was contacted by the Adair County Detention Center in regards to a suspicious letter that an inmate being lodged at the detention center had attempted to send out in the mail. KSP Troopers launched an investigation after receiving the letter that the detention center staff had intercepted. Troopers learned that Paul Bricker, age 37 of Columbia, had attempted to send a letter in the mail, while incarcerated, soliciting the murder of another individual. As a result of the investigation, Mr. Bricker was arrested and charged with Solicitation of Murder. Mr. Bricker remained lodged in the Adair County Detention Center. State releases county unemployment data for November 2022 From Gabriel Tomlin Frankfort, KY - Unemployment rates rose in 84 counties between November 2021 and November 2022, fell in 20, and stayed the same in 16 counties, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet. Locally, unemployment rates were up year-to-year in Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Russell and Taylor Counties, and down in year-to-year in Metcalfe County. Comparing month-to-month, unemployment rates were down in Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, and Taylor Counties, and remained unchanged in Russell County.
Oldham and Woodford counties recorded the lowest jobless rates in the commonwealth at 2.9%. They were followed by Cumberland, Henry, Scott and Shelby counties, 3% each; and Anderson, Boone, Fayette and Spencer counties, 3.1% each. First meeting of Senate Committee on Families and Children From Nancy Royden, LRC Frankfort, KY -- The new Senate Standing Committee on Families and Children held its first meeting Wednesday, discussing plans to take aim at important and complicated issues in Kentucky. Sen. Danny Carroll, R-Benton, chairs the committee. He said its jurisdiction includes family and children's issues, child welfare, adoptions, protective services, caregiver support, family preservation programs, senior citizen programs, sexual assault programs and much more. Fiscal Court changes meeting dates In its first meeting of the new year, the Adair County Fiscal Court changed from two meetings per month to one. Tuesday's required special called meeting was to establish "required basics," and the first regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. CPD: Columbia man arrested for wanton endangerment By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department The Columbia Police Department responded to a residence on West Barbee Street on Wednesday night January 4, 2023. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a male subject had fled the residence. Officers observed property damage throughout the residence and multiple victims gave officers statements regarding an altercation with them and the male subject. The male was later located by officers behind FiveStar on Campbellsville Street HWY 55 North, where he was placed into custody without incident.
