Kentucky Color: Squirrel Nest

Billy Joe writes,"Squirrels raise their young in a nest and seek cover from predators and weather in them. Sometimes the nest will be built in the forks of limbs like this one and sometimes in hollow places inside big limbs or the tree trunk, itself.

Many folks with little experience will mistakenly identify a squirrel nest as a hawk or crow's nest. Usually a squirrel nest will be built out toward the edge of the crown while a hawk's nest will be built in bigger forks nearer the interior of the crown. Squirrels are rodents and they gnaw off the green leafy twigs and construct their nest. Hawks, crows and eagles build their nests with dead limbs, sticks and twigs since they don't have teeth. Therefore, just observing the construction material in the nests can readily identify the builder!"

Living off the grid he bid his farewell to all the institutions
That had convincingly bound him with uneasy restitutions.
But he did not long stay on that earthy, irreverent day.

Viewing to the west and south a single vulture riding
On the Southeasterly breeze with the soft, predictable updrifts.
Surely for him there soon will be some that have fallen
On this most seamless of days- he is very hungry.
The fallow field below him -wearing only its Winter girth-most needy.

What if there were no regrets in all our ventures-no losing in the frequent
Happenchance Adventures-all the earthly powder for destruction be always wet.
Living in perfect harmony with each other, No need of armored vest, armed guards
Or rusty Iron bars around us with all our chosen behaviors being at our best.

What if all the talk about each other would simply morph into the warmth of summer jest.
No pain within, no illicit drugs to temper the shame or remorse in reach of the afflicted.
All the chains of flames leading to the soul's destruction easily be discarded.

No hunger, no bullies to be tamed-no tears from all the strain or poverty in the living.
No clouds of discorded refrain, merely fanciful dreams that will never harm us.
No starlets to lead us astray-all of us would come out about a bubble shy of even
At the end of all our days.

News of the day would be only a whimsical play-Start watch when we begin
Stopwatch when it ends-no marathon to make a point within it.
After much has fallen, none has gone astray mixed with joy and laughter.
No more debt to pay -all fully paid by our loving, sacrificial savior.

Graveside service for Prentice "Popcorn" Wyatt will be conducted at 1pmCT on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Green County Memory Gardens, with Bro. Steve Lee officiating.

A family only visitation will be held from 10amCT until 12:30pmCT on Monday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home prior to graveside service.

KSP encourages safe driving this holiday season

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is announcing that the commonwealth is on track to have fewer fatalities than in 2021 and will participate in the 'Make it Home for the Holidays' traffic safety enforcement campaign. As of Monday, December 13, Kentucky has experienced 691 traffic collision fatalities, 82 less than in 2021.

KSP troopers and officers will emphasize all traffic enforcement violations, including speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, impaired and distracted driving, and commercial vehicle enforcement. In conjunction with the agency's 'Make it Home for the Holidays' enforcement campaign, KSP will participate in two National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) enforcement campaigns during December, including 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' and 'Operation C.A.R.E.' (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort).

Candlelight Service at Columbia Baptist Church

The Columbia Baptist Church will host their annual Candlelight Service at 6pmCT on Sunday evening, December 18, 2022.

Music will be led by the Columbia Baptist Church worship and praise team. Special music and scriptures will be led by and feature Pastor Randy Johnson, Bobby Lee, Ronnie Blackwell, Emma Grider, Jonathan Holmes, Olivia Jenkins, Kevin Jenkins, Carolyn Hale, and Ellen Quinn.

A reception will follow the program. Everyone is invited. Columbia Baptist Church is located at 201 Greensburg St, Columbia, KY.
