Chapter Nine

By Darlene Franklin-Campbell

"We could just go for the border," Ace said, brushing her long blonde hair in front of the hotel mirror. "Make a new start in Mexico."

Pinky laid wigs out on the king-sized bed. "We could."

Rosie perched on the window ledge, pulling on a pair of stockings. "I don't want to live in Mexico. I don't even speak Spanish."

"Pinky could do the t...talking for you," Clyde said from the other bed where she lay on her stomach doing a word find.

"I don't like hot," Rosie said. "It's too hot down there."

"Do you think James Allen has been reported as a missing person yet?" Ace asked as she pinned up her hair.

Phillip Coffey: Dedicated to Dad

Honor and Salutation by Phillip Coffey
Hear a lone government grader scraping the city streets.
Heroes, trying to get us all back in 'mobile conditions'.
Here I sit, all warm and tidy- he in the bitter, frozen snow.
Hats off to all of the people I have known laboring in the cold.

Yes, I have throughout the years - frequented the ice blown
But never did I ever carry a weapon for Country and saving souls.
Going forward, 'firing' - snow blindness - numbing all of my toes.
Honor and salutation to all - surviving the evil bestowed.
Dedicated To Dad. Fourteen days without being able to take off his shoes. Suffered from snow blindness during all of the "Battle of the Bulge." Most of us have no clue.

Photos of good food bring family recipes to mind

Click headline for photos and recipe text

By Johnny Roemisch

Seeing all the Epicurean posts brought this to mind. This is my Grandma's recipe for pancakes. They were by request only and the waiting list was very long.

They are as big as a plate. Not quite a crepe, yet not thick enough to be a cake. You slather whatever your go-to is on 'em and roll 'em up. These are bar-none the best I've ever had, and that fruit salad is great too!

KYTC: Hazardous driving conditions remain, avoid travel

By Amber Hale

Somerset, KY - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 highway crews continue to plow and treat roadways across the district this morning, all roads remain covered and slick. KYTC District 8 is responsible for maintaining state highways in Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell and Wayne counties.

Motorists should avoid travel if possible. If you must travel slow down, leave plenty of space between vehicles and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.

Crews will remain focused on priority A snow routes- which include interstates, parkways, U.S. highways, and some other 4-lane routes. Once those routes are addressed crews will work to clear priority B and C routes. KYTC asks for patience as crews are working as hard as they can to clear routes.

For a complete county-by-county snow and ice priority list please go to: http://SnowKY.ky.gov.
