Gov. Beshear provides Team Kentucky update

By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis

Frankfort, KY - Today, Gov. Andy Beshear provided his Team Kentucky update and said 60% of all Kentuckians have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. At least 2,682,277 Kentuckians have been vaccinated: 64% of all Kentuckians five and older, and 72% of all Kentuckians 18 and older.

"I want to acknowledge that 60% of Kentuckians vaccinated is not enough, but this has never been done in the history of the world before," said Gov. Beshear. "It hasn't even been a year since the first vaccines were shipped out, and we've got 60% of every man, woman and child who lives in this state vaccinated. We need to be proud of that accomplishment and use it as motivation to keep going."

Carol Perkins: Life's Chapters, Three - My Town at Christmas

Previous Chapter: Life's Chapters, Two - In Town

By Carol Perkins

I have never been to Disney World at Christmas, but I can't imagine having any more thrill than I did as a child when the Christmas lights went on in Edmonton. The first lights date back to the fifties and have been updated a few times, but the memory of the first ones lingers. Even now, I can't wait for the trucks to line the square and hoist the lights to the poles. They bring such joy to all of us.

Not only were the lights spectacular, so were the windows of the many businesses in town. The larger-than-life Santa in the Western Auto window (not the Herald office building) captivated the tiny ones who were positive he was waving at them. Ruth's Department store (home of Wall Works) displayed a beautifully decorated tree and other bright boxes of surprises (Judy Wilson Jolly and her mom), and later The Fashion Nook (Naomi Hayes and Ersie Emberton) put their classic touch on a window that made us drive by to see.

ISP once again welcomes new students, calls for host parents

By Anna Peterson
Assistant Director of ISP

Through the hustle and bustle of upcoming finals and holidays, LWC International Student Program (ISP) is getting ready to welcome new students for Spring 2022.

The college has over 100 international students from more than 36 countries and will add a new cohort in the upcoming semester. ISP is currently asking for new families to join the program and help create a friendly, comforting home-away-from-home atmosphere here at LWC for each international student.

The "International Friendship Program" matches international students with area families who are willing to host the students during the school year. Host families DO NOT provide housing for the students. Instead, as the program name suggests, host families provide a friendship and a support system here in America to make the transition to and time in the U.S. a little bit easier.
