Phillip Coffey - Helpful

By Phillip Coffey
Hard rain sure is a-falling - Doofus taking the lying position.
Perhaps so should I but not yet - oft to weekly Bible study.
Sure a lot I do not understand about the well written 'Good Book'.
My thought is just do what you can - helping the 'Sisters and Brothers'.

Sure volumes of stuff from Genesis to often misunderstood Revelations.
Ever present Holy Spirit and well educated Bible scholars - most helpful.
Acknowledging God and his son, Jesus - never selfish or egotistic.
Gracious, reaching out to Christ - arduous efforts to helping one another.

Carol Perkins: Check the Time

Previous Column: Lest We Forget

By Carol Perkins

I tap my arm and Guy knows I want him to show me his watch. He turns his wrist toward me, and I nod. If no one is looking, checking my watch (or Guy's) goes unnoticed. However, if someone is in the middle of a presentation and sees me checking my watch, he might get the message I'm bored and wishing time would pass. That would be the logical conclusion, but not always the correct one.

When I'm caught checking the time in a situation that might hurt someone's feelings or make them self-consciousness, I am embarrassed. Most of the time I check my phone. No one thinks twice when someone checks a phone, even in church or at a funeral. Considered rude by most, checking for the time is habitual.

It's Farmers Market on the Square time

Farmers Market on the Square supporter Lois Cunningham reminds us of the many creative artists we have in Adair County in addition to our farmers and the fresh foods they share each Saturday morning.

She said to be sure and check out the works of Phoenix McDaniel, age 14, who makes "beautiful wood boards for serving, along with hanging shelves." His work is available at the Coview Farms booths, central market.

Farmers Market on the Square started on the public square in Columbia and then grew to the large city parking area at the corner of Merchant and Campbellsville Streets. The booths are open from 8am to 1pmCT Saturdays through the season.
