By Sam Price
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

As alarming as recent numbers may be, please realize that the real-time situation is likely even worse than what is reflected here. Our hospitals in the region and across the state are nearing capacity. The health department is struggling to keep up with positive case reports. We have not seen numbers like these since January.

Please take precautions, including wearing a mask in indoor gatherings, practicing social distancing when possible and considering vaccination if you have not already done so. On a positive note, all of our counties are continuing to inch up in their vaccination rates, although all remain below the state average.

Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 12.4%.

By Rachel Waggener

The gals got vaccinated. I will be able to breathe a little easier when school is back full swing... I was on the fence about it for too long. But four things swayed my choice:

1. Prayer helped me with making a decision. I prayed for clarity and the ability to set emotions aside to make a decision best for the girls.

2. I am vaccinated. It didn't make sense for me to deny that to them.
