Letter: Spay/neuter issue

Susan Smith writes:
I myself am an animal lover and don't like to see any animal go hungry, so with that being said I'm am feeding around 20 cats and kittens twice a day. I have learned that once you feed them they become yours. I would love to have a program in Adair County to pay for TNR to help control the feline population. I know in my neighborhood it's a big problem as I'm sure it is elsewhere.

LWC Football 2020 Rewind

By Kyle Jackson

The 2020-21 season for the Lindsey Wilson football team was certainly one for the history books. From having their entire schedule delayed to the spring, to reaching heights the likes of which had never been seen before in program history.

The Blue Raiders made their sixth appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series, running the table en route to a visit to Grambling State University. In Louisiana, the eleven-year-old football program captured its first national championship by defeating No. 6 Northwestern (Iowa) 45-13.

Along the way, Lindsey Wilson secured its third Mid-South Conference division title, as well as the 50th all-time victory at Blue Raider Stadium. The team also maintained its bragging rights in the famed "Battle of Highway 55," defeating Campbellsville (KY) 49-21.

Addressing the Spay/Neuter issue

By Miss Donna Rieder

Last Friday afternoon, two dogs showed up at my place after the thunderstorm. Well fed, but no collars or ID. I spent 4 hours on Saturday literally going house to house from Hale's Highway to Powell Road, showing people their photos, in hopes of reuniting them with their owners, but nobody, including my mail lady, recognized them. God bless Jimmy Harmon, who came and picked them up and took them to the shelter. It's not the first time; Jimmy's been out to my farm dozens of times since I moved here, to pick up stray animals.

On my way home from the Powell Road end of White Oak Church Road, I saw a young adult cat and a kitten cross the road just before I got to my house. I got some food, my trap and a cat carrier, and went back. There was a dead cat in the road, obviously hit by a car. I managed to catch the kitten, and left the trap there in hopes of catching the other cat.

When I went back about ten minutes later, the original cat I saw was in the trap, and another one was sitting next to it, probably attracted by the scent of the canned cat food. I took the one cat back to my place, then took the trap back, and eventually trapped the second cat. I also saw another adult cat and two more kittens, which I also managed to trap and catch. The fear in their eyes was saddening. I couldn't just leave them there to starve, get run over, or be eaten alive by an owl or coyote. I just don't understand how people can be so heartless; they shouldn't own animals if they can't afford to get them spayed and neutered.

Adair Co.: Hosted Volunteer Appreciation Day at Zoo

Adair County celebrated the gift of life and the generosity of Kentucky's registered organ donors in partnership with the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks' Trust For Life at the Louisville Zoo on Saturday, July 24, 2021. The Volunteer Appreciation event was two-fold - it raised awareness of organ, eye, and tissue donation while honoring the volunteers whose impact is vital growing the life-saving mission.

Nearly 200 people from across the Commonwealth attended the Volunteer Appreciation Day and wore signature blue and green Donate Life colors. By bringing together transplant recipients, donor families, patients waiting for a lifesaving transplant, and dedicated advocates, stories were shared, and new advocates were registered as donors. Education efforts like these provide hope to the 1,000 Kentuckians who are waiting on a lifesaving transplant.

"As a community, we must embrace our role in saving lives through the Kentucky Organ Donor Registry. Registering as a donor not only provides hope but celebrates and appreciates all that the journey of life has to offer. Adair County's support is essential for our mission," said Dennis Loy, Adair County Circuit Court Clerk.

Letter: Irish Bottom Church

Marcus Pierce writes:
This church is much photographed. It's down in the Irish Bottom Community in Cumberland County. Not sure what denomination.

It's closed but everything is in its place if you peep through the windows and the glass is very old. Someone maintains the property.

Notice it has two doors. One for women to enter and one for men maybe. If the walls could speak it would tell about many souls saved, many sermons preached and many hymns sung.
