Lindsey Wilson launches new DNP in Executive Leadership

By Venus Popplewell

Lindsey Wilson College announced the addition of the doctor of nursing practice in executive leadership degree to its academic programs. The College currently offers a nationally accredited CCNE bachelor of science in nursing degree and a fully-online RN to BSN program. The first DNP cohort will begin in August 2021. It is the second doctoral-level program offered by LWC.

"Lindsey Wilson is excited to announce the launch of a doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program with a focus on executive leadership," said LWC Vice President of Academic Affairs Trish Parrish. "The college is well prepared to offer the DNP based on its other successful master's and doctoral programs. We are excited to bring advanced nursing study to southcentral Kentucky."

The BSN to DNP track is a 68 credit-hour course of study and the MSN to DNP track is a 36-hour course of study. Both tracks are offered through fully-online courses. The program is designed for nurses seeking a terminal degree in nursing practice who are interested in executive, professional, clinical or academic leadership.

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 3/24/2021

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

A close look at our data may appear the Adair, Pulaski, and Wayne numbers are off today. This is because we moved one Pulaski case to Wayne and we deleted one duplicate from Adair.

Today, like the last few days, our new case rate is continuing to creep up, so our 7-day average incidence rate is creeping up as well. This is concerning since COVID-19 restrictions are being eased, vaccine uptake has slowed, and compliance with precautionary guidelines is not being followed as closely. Considering exponential growth, what looks like a slight uptick today, could turn into a surge over the next 6 weeks. Just 6 days ago out total cases were projected to double every 607 days. Today, 491 days.

We now have only 2 counties in the "yellow-community-spread" category, Cumberland, and Wayne; and 8 counties in the "orange-accelerated" range of community-spread: Adair, Casey, Clinton, Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Russell, and Taylor. None of our counties are presently in the "red-critical" range.

LWC Baseball drops Brescia 14-5 in road victory

By Brady Budke

Owensboro, KY - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team traveled to Owensboro, Kentucky this afternoon and knocked off Brescia (KY) by a final of 14-5 at Kamuf Park.

Offensively, the Blue Raiders sent out 11 hits from the plate and stole a season-high eight bases as a team. Kelvin Llanos notched a team-best three hits while Lucas Bault and Tyler Maskill each stole two bases apiece to lead the way. Derek Zavala and Seth Price each corralled three RBIs to guide the scoring effort.

Defensively, Brandon Wilson pitched his way to the win, going eight complete innings of work while recording his season-high of seven strikeouts.

Brescia grabbed the lead in the opening inning, crossing two runs for the early advantage. However, the Blue Raiders added the equalizing runs in the second inning when Price led things off with a solo home run, and Jonathan Gallagher brought Tyler Maskill home off an RBI single a few at-bats later.

Adair among 9 counties transitioning drivers licensing

By Naitore Djigbenou/Chuck Wolfe

Frankfort, KY - Nine more counties in April will make the transition to a new, secure driver-licensing system that gives customers more choices and modern services.

Licensing services in those counties, and ultimately the entire state, will be performed at specialized regional offices of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) instead of at the Office of Circuit Court Clerk in every Kentucky county.

"Kentucky's system for driver license application, issuance and renewal is being taken to the next level with a network of driver licensing regional offices exclusively dedicated to licensing services," KYTC Secretary Jim Gray said.

Making the transition will be Adair, Breathitt, Floyd, Hopkins, Madison, McCracken, Pulaski, Rowan and Russell counties. The Office of Circuit Court Clerk in those counties will cease nearly all in-person driver licensing services on Monday, April 26. The nine counties join Fayette, Franklin and Woodford counties, which already have made the transfer of services. The new system is to be phased in statewide by June 30, 2022.

Wearing Blue for Blake - a Thank You

By Cathy Martin

March 19, 2021 - We cannot begin to tell each & every one of you what it means for you all to be sharing your love for Blake today.

No better day to celebrate his memory than on the 1st day of the NCAA tournament, playing the game he loved.

David & I don’t make it through a single day without shedding tears, missing everything about him. He laughed to the fullest & enjoyed ALL his time with Haley Martin, Avery & Asher. He never wanted a birthday, holiday or any kind of meal to be overlooked without sharing FAMILY time.

He looked forward to us all being together.

Letter: unless a delivery, use the Bypass

James Roberts writes:
I think the city council should contact the KY Transportation Cabinet and see what needs to be done to keep the larger trucks from coming through town either by an ordinance, signage, etc.

Unless they have a delivery in city limits then they should be taking the bypass or alternate truck route.

As far as the courthouse, I think it would look so much better to remove each corner and put it back to its original design and sandblast or clean the paint from the brick to make it look original.

You need a courthouse volunteer committee to oversee the restoration by having fundraisers, historical grants applied for and local donations to help fund the project. - Just my thought, James

Overpowering, unstoppable and dominant. All three words sum up Annabelle Ramirez's performance in the circle as the Lindsey Wilson senior tossed her second career no-hitter in game one's 3-0 win against Cumberland (Tenn.) on Tuesday at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

In game two, Elizabeth Funk's game-ending grand slam gave the Blue Raiders (24-0, 18-0 Mid-South Conference) a 13-5 victory due to the mercy rule as Lindsey Wilson swept the Phoenix (5-9, 3-7 MSC).
