LCDHD: Alternative plans for Thursday vaccinations LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 2/9/2021 By Amy Tomlinson Lake Cumberland District Health Department With the expected ice storm coming, we are making alternative plans for any COVID-19 clinics scheduled for Thursday. Fortunately, should we need to reschedule these appointments, we should be able to move them to early next week. Watch our Daily Brief and social media for updates. Today we had more new cases than last Tuesday. Thus, our 7-day-average incidence rate went up slightly. Though we have a couple counties close to the next lower level, all 10 of our counties remain in the "red-critical" range of community-spread. So, let's all do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing our face coverings, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing our hand hygiene, increasing our general sanitation, and by avoiding touching our faces. Motorists should avoid unnecessary travel during winter event By Amber Hale Somerset, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 highway crews are ready to respond to the forecasted winter storm expected to impact the region with freezing rain, snow and ice. Weather forecasts call for the system arriving in the District 8 region Wednesday lasting through early Friday. The system is expected to begin as rain changing over to a wintry mix with the potential of ice accumulations of a half-inch or more for much of our area. Damage to trees and power lines is likely - a condition that poses its own dangers to KYTC crews and can delay road response work. The potential for single-digit cold temperatures impacts the effectiveness of road salt which works best when temperatures are above the freezing point. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid any unnecessary travel over the next several days. KYTC District 8 crews have spent today loading salt, sharpening chainsaws, and preparing equipment for an extended winter weather response. Governor announces 6% increase in state's vaccine supply By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen Frankfort, KY - On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced the federal government increased Kentucky's vaccine supply for the third time in three weeks, this time by six percent, for a total increase of 28%. "The White House announced that we are going to get six percent more next week - that is on top of the previous increases and will have us up 28% over what we were previously getting three weeks ago," said Gov. Beshear. "It's not enough, but it's great." The Governor also warned Kentuckians about significant snow and ice accumulation from late tonight until late Thursday night. For more details on the current forecast, click here, and visit the National Weather Service's website or your local news outlet for live updates. "The commonwealth is facing a significant ice and snow event starting tomorrow that will last until Thursday night. The storm is going to effect the entire state. The National Weather Service has a high confidence level of ice and snow accumulation during this period," said Gov. Beshear. "We can expect some scattered power outages throughout the impacted areas. The winter storm will not have the far-reaching effects of the 2009 ice storm - thank goodness - but this is a dangerous weather system and we urge you to make a safety plan with family and check on your neighbors and friends. We need to be prepared." Vaccination appointments for Wednesday and Thursday at Kroger regional vaccine sites will be rescheduled to ensure the safety of all staff, volunteers and vaccine recipients. "If you have waited a long time to get this appointment, I am really sorry. But I also don't want to put you out on the roads with thick ice," said Gov. Beshear. "Wear your mask, be careful over this next week and we will get you vaccinated." Letter: Pugs comes home Sandra Coomer writes: I posted a while back about my bindle pug missing. Today he showed up at the back door he went out of when he got lost. He is somewhat malnourished and his eye may have to be removed. Not to mention stinking to high heavens. But he is right now on his way to the Mill Creek Vet in Greensburg for any treatment he may need. How he survived for 6 weeks God only knows but his is home safe and sound. Thanks for prayers for his safe return. They worked.Previously on CM: Have you seen Pugsley? 2021-02-09 17:25:15 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
