Gov. Beshear: Kentucky's vaccine allocation increased

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear said he had a call today with the President's COVID-19 team where he learned the federal government will increase each state's supply of COVID-19 vaccines by 17%.

"That is a great start," said Gov. Beshear. "The other thing they are doing is guaranteeing a minimum supply for three straight weeks. One of the tough things we've been dealing with is only knowing on a Tuesday what we would have the next week and not knowing what we would have in the weeks after."

He also said two cases of the COVID-19 variant from the United Kingdom (UK) have been confirmed in the commonwealth.

"Public health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack is going to talk about this more tomorrow. The UK variant does spread more aggressively, but he'll take us through all the implications of having this strain here," said Gov. Beshear.

Letter: against taxers, untrusting of office holders

Letter: against new taxes Brad Byington writes:
I agree with what James said. But, I am so untrusting of anyone that's in public office. I don't believe anything we say makes any difference. If tonight's open meeting doesn't go as the board hopes for, what's to stop them from going into closed session and passing an emergency funding tax?

Disgruntled surf,
Brad Byington

Letter: who is in charge of county coffers?

Cynthia Meyer writes:
James Roberts has hit the nail on the head with his statement about raising taxes once again in Adair County. Who is it exactly that is responsible for overseeing the county coffers? Obviously, they are not doing the job they accepted to do. No one needs to be reminded about the hospital debacle, nor is anyone saying much about the two hundred THOUSAND + dollars that was grafted from the jail monies - which cannot be repaid.

County employees simply laugh, as they tell you, your taxes are going up while they use county equipment and inventory for personal use on personal property. Try to contact the County Judge Executive about abuse of county funds gives you no answers or half-truths. But I bet a dollar to a donut that she will be voting for raised taxes, yet the monies for those taxes will be coming out of the pockets of Adair Countians who have to go outside the county to find jobs to make a living as Adair County has minimal jobs that pay over $10 an hour.

Though most children and young adults do not suffer serious complications from this virus, many with whom they interact could. So your participation in the vaccination process is a shining example of The Golden Rule. --Mary Anne and Barry Loy

Letter: Against new taxes

James Roberts writes:
I don't think that it would be fair to collect additional taxes on the people of Adair County that have either lost or partially lost their income because of a virus that we have no control over or a government that has control over businesses that causes people to lose their jobs.

That's like saying I'm taking your lunch and your going to pay me so I can eat yours and mine. Doesn't sound very good does it? We vote for people to be good stewards of our tax money. When they don't or don't know how then it's time to go back home and let someone else take over.

Do you see any elected official taking a pay cut or donating a portion of their pay to help the fellow man? I didn't think so! All government entities needs a budget and needs to stick to the budget! Go ahead and add another burdening tax on us taxpayers and see what happens come election time! Just my opinion, James Roberts

LCDHD: Patience required for vaccines

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 1/25/2021

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

Following the vaccination of school staff over the coming weeks, it is our present understanding the much of the state's weekly supply of vaccine will be diverted to regional, mass vaccination sites for the 70 and older population. These mass vaccination sites, as we understand it, will be provided via a state contract with Kroger, not through the local health departments.

We spend a great deal of our time of late explaining to people why there is not enough vaccine available in our area for everyone who wants one to get one. Here is an article that helps to explain the answer: COVID-19 Vaccine, Patience is Needed.

Phillip Coffey - Smiles All Around

By Phillip Coffey

Bernie showing off in his Brown and Tan mittens
Smiles all around - leave us all up in stitches.
He is so everywhere - bona fide ubiquitous.
One feller even toting ole Bernie on his umbrella.

No line of division between 'The Red' and 'The Blue'
Ole Bernie Sanders sure has been getting around
'Well'', I even got a furtive glimpse - foot of my bed.
No abhorrent apparition for me - Bernie instead.
