By Trooper Nick Hale

Today, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Training Academy, along with the Governor's Office and the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, presented graduation diploma's to forty-five new troopers. Of those, three new troopers are assigned to Post 15. These cadets have special significance as they represent the one-hundredth training class since the inception of the agency in 1948.

The Post 15 graduates of the 100th KSP Training Academy included:
  • Austin Mattingly, Bloomfield, KY
  • Brandon Poole, Burkesville, KY
  • Jacob Smith, Liberty, KY
KSP acting Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. said Cadet Class 100 should be proud of their accomplishments today but know that their actual journey begins in the morning.

"Tomorrow will start the true 'first day' of their careers as Kentucky State Troopers. I challenge each of these new troopers to take that journey with humility, compassion, and a thirst to be better every day than they were the day before," said Burnett.

Marijuana in black market now, not in state's budget

By Linda Waggener

Continuing the discussion of whether our Legislature should legalize Marijuana, a recent article in the Louisville Courier Journal contained the following information:
"Arizona, Montana, New Jersey and South Dakota legalized and will tax recreational marijuana for adults, joining 11 other states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.

"The Kentucky Cannabis Freedom Coalition Director Patrick Dunegan said “The word ‘recreational’ needs to no longer be used,” Dunegan. “You do not hear them say ‘recreational drinking,’ you always hear ‘responsible drinking.’

“We are responsible adults. Doctors, lawyers, individual citizens are consuming this plant as we speak, and that money is going into the black market when it could go into our (state budget).”
