LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 1/20/2021 By Amy Tomlinson Lake Cumberland District Health Department We are happy to report that Cumberland Family Medical was able to give 150 doses of the vaccine targeted to the faculty and staff at Casey County Schools today. As stated in our briefs of late, the state plans to use most of its available vaccine over the coming 3 to 4 weeks to vaccinate Phase 1b: school staff. Following this, the push will be to vaccinate Phase 1b: those 70 and older. Until the vaccine is widely available, let's all do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing our face coverings, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing our hand hygiene, increasing our general sanitation, and by avoiding touching our faces. Gov. Beshear: Positivity rate below 12% for 5th day By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen Frankfort, KY - On Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear said the state's COVID-19 positivity rate has stayed below 12% for the fifth day in a row. "While there is still so much pain and darkness in our commonwealth due to this pandemic, we are beginning to see the light ahead of us," said Gov. Beshear. "This plateauing positivity rate is great news for Kentucky, especially as we continue to bring more of these live-saving vaccines to our people each week." Beshear to co-chair national task force on Economic Recovery By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen Frankfort, KY - Today, the National Governors Association (NGA) announced that Gov. Andy Beshear will lead a bipartisan task force to guide states in their economic recovery and revitalization efforts amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Beshear will co-chair the NGA's Economic Recovery and Revitalization task force along with South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster. The NGA created two other panels - Pandemic and Disaster Response and Community Renewal - which also are chaired by two governors from differing political parties. KSP: Troopers detailed to Presidential Inauguration By Sgt. Billy Gregory Frankfort, KY - A unit of 44 Kentucky State Police Troopers will join local, state and federal law enforcement agencies from across the country to provide security at the Presidential Inauguration in Washington, DC on January 20. The troopers will be temporarily sworn in as local officers giving them arrest powers during their duties, which will include traffic and crowd control, security at events and other assignments. KSP troopers made their first appearance at the Presidential Inauguration of George W. Bush in 2005 and have been honored to participate since that time. All expenses and salaries incurred for this detail are to be reimbursed by the Washington, DC Metro Police Department. With that much spread, if we are not all vigilant with following the guidance, the disease can quickly ramp back up. Please do not become complacent.
