Letter: Stringbean, Casey Jones, Bar X Boys query

Taylor Hagood writes:
I am writing a book on the life and murder of David "Stringbean" Akeman. A professor of American literature at Florida Atlantic University, I have authored several books, and my credentials can be found at www.taylorhagood.com.

My reason for writing is that I came across the photo in the link posted on Columbia Magazine: Favorite Old Photo: The Bar-X-Boys, 1938.

Of all the bands Stringbean was associated with, it seems that the Bar-X-Boys are the least known about, and I would be grateful for any information you or someone you know in town would be able to share. I see that the photo was submitted by a Mr. Bobby Ferguson, and if it would be possible to get in touch with him, I would absolutely love to speak with him.

I have also found on your website another photo of one of the band members, Casey Jones: Mr. and Mrs. Casey Jones, comedy act 1930s.

If it would be possible to get in touch with Mrs. Marilyn Jones Boyd, Mr. Jones's daughter, I would very much appreciate that opportunity also.

Any help from readers would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Taylor Hagood, Professor of American Literature

Letter: Cannabis kills cancer cells

Marie Freeman writes:
Once again I want to strongly affirm that I am against drug abuse, cigarettes, or even alcohol. I feel that it should be one's freedom of choice, but I would not choose either. Along with many pharmaceutical drugs offered!

But I feel as a nation and a community we need to look at the cancer prospects for healing with the cannabis plant. That is just one of many medicinal values. But perhaps the most important, especially now that it's been discovered that you can juice the plant and not even have any psychoactive properties, why are we not looking at this more? https://dailyhealthpost.com/cannabis-cancer-studies
