Major growth happens over five years and now an oil boom

By Miss Vicky Pike, Pampered Angus Ranch

Dec. 17, 2020 - This morning after listening to the town hall from Sen. Wise I checked my social media. On this day in Adair County history five years ago the Cumberland Parkway ramp lighting on Burkesville road came on for the very first time.

New Columbia/Greater Bliss will forever be in the light. Since then our little community has burst at the seams with new development. We have the Pinewood development full.

Governor encourages Kentuckians to stay safe this Christmas

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear said he hoped all Kentuckians will have a wonderful Christmas, encouraging them to keep gatherings small and safe so they may enjoy many future holidays with their loved ones.

"I want to make sure I start by asking everybody to make that additional sacrifice and do their part to keep their Christmas celebrations small," said Gov. Beshear. "With the rest of the country on fire, with hospitalizations escalating in almost every other state, in Kentucky we are seeing a stabilization that is protecting the lives of our people, and we want to make sure that we continue to plateau or even see a decrease in cases as we move forward with this vaccine.

"How we do Christmas and New Year's celebrations is going to be so critical to protecting as many Kentuckians as possible until we can get this vaccine disseminated. In my family, this Christmas will just be Britainy and myself, the kids and the dog."

CU School of Music holds virtual Christmas Tapestry

By Ariel C. Emberton

Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University's School of Music's 2020 Christmas Tapestry looked different due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For over 15 years, the School of Music has been producing the Christmas Tapestry and allowing the public, CU students, faculty and staff to attend the performance. This year, Dr. Tony Cunha, dean and professor of music, wanted to continue the tradition of the Christmas Tapestry while keeping in mind health and safety measures.

"The School of Music faculty did not give up on a tapestry event. However, we knew it would be different," Cunha said. The 2020 Christmas Tapestry, which is a two-part video series, can be found at the School of Music's Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/campbellsvillemusic, through Christmas day.

Public health guidelines help keep our food supply strong

By Sean Southard

Frankfort, KY - As consumers across the United States celebrate the winter holiday season, the leaders of the agricultural departments in seven Midwestern states released a video message today encouraging adherence to public health guidelines to help protect the nation's essential agricultural workforce and keep food supply chains flowing.

The group of leaders joined together to share their appreciation for essential agricultural and food workers, who have never stopped working throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. They also emphasized the importance of wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing, and avoiding in-person gatherings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. By limiting the spread of the virus, we can all help keep essential workers healthy and our food supply chain moving.

Kentucky officials vaccinated

Heads of each branch of state government vaccinated for continuity of government, to demonstrate bipartisan support for safe, effective vaccines

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear, Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr., House Speaker David Osborne and Senate President Robert Stivers, heads of the three branches of Kentucky government, each received their initial dose of the Moderna vaccine on Tuesday, ensuring the continuity of state government during this pandemic and demonstrating broad, bipartisan support for the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccination.

Their vaccinations follow the first vaccinations in Kentucky on Dec. 14, when the first round of hospitals began receiving and administering 38,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to front-line health care workers. On Monday, long-term care facility residents and staff began receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine through Walgreens and CVS, which have an agreement with the federal government. This week, about 80 regional hospitals and more than 90 local health departments are receiving over 70,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine to inoculate more health care workers.

Wayne DAV chapter celebrates 75th year

By Mary Ellis
Reprinted with permission from the Commonwealth Journal

Through the years, our military veterans have continually stood the test of time with their family members along side them. Many servicemen were drafted back in the day, while others considered it a 'calling' and volunteered. Lots of men and women came home from the military after fighting a good fight, while others sadly gave all - their lives.

As we're only days away from Christmas, a different kind of battle continues to rage in 2020 and has already claimed a massive number of casualties. This first ever COVID-19 stricken year, marks 100 years for a powerful Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization.
