KDLA Awards 20 awards grants to Green, Russell Co. Libraries By Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC), has awarded grants to 20 Kentucky public libraries for laptop and hotspot lending programs focused on helping Kentucky residents with workforce and educational activities. Both the Green County Library and the Russell County Library will be awarded grants for five laptops. KDLA's Workforce Grants will provide for kits consisting of a computer laptop and Wi-Fi hotspot, as well as funding for up to two years of hotspot service for each library. The recipient libraries also will provide services or programming related to workforce needs such as job searches or digital literacy skills. Fourteen of the selected libraries will receive five laptops and hotspots, and six libraries will receive 10 laptops and hotspots. The libraries lend the laptops and hotspot service to adult patrons to take home to support lifelong learning and employment goals. Cleaning tips provided for cloth face coverings From the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service Cloth face coverings have become part of the wardrobe for many people venturing out in public. In many states, including Kentucky, wearing a face covering in nearly all public settings is mandatory, as outlined in Executive Order 2020-586. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has provided a comprehensive set of guidelines for making, wearing, and caring for cloth face coverings. The CDC is recommending that you wash cloth face coverings after each use, which for many people, means daily. Therefore, it is a good idea for each person to own more than one cloth face covering so that while you wash and dry the used face coverings, you have a clean face covering "ready to go." LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 12/17/2020 By Amy Tomlinson Lake Cumberland District Health Department Covid-19 vaccine is arriving in Kentucky! You may have seen images this week of Kentuckians beginning to receive the new COVID vaccine. This is an incredibly exciting and hopeful development. The first vaccine that has been approved for distribution is the Pfizer vaccine. While we did not receive any of this vaccine in Lake Cumberland in this first shipment, we are anticipating receiving the next approved vaccine (Moderna) possibly within the next week or two. The first doses are expected to be available in very small numbers and will be reserved for health care workers, first responders and long term care residents and staff, initially. LCDHD is continuing to actively plan for receipt and distribution of vaccine with our community partners. We will certainly be sharing more information VERY soon, but for now, please continue to be patient and stay healthy! Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 8.45%.
