Singleton shares message of unity, forgiveness and prayer

By Scarlett Birge

Campbellsville, KY - "God has put forgiveness on my heart because I have seen the power of forgiveness," Chris Singleton, inspirational speaker and former professional baseball player, said at Campbellsville University's Oct. 14 chapel service.

Singleton shared how he keeps his perspective on life in check by reminding himself of struggle moments that have led him to be where he is today and that inspire him to speak of love, unity and forgiveness.

"These struggle moments push me forward in my life when times get tough," Singleton said.

Singleton said he thinks about how one misinformed person changed his life when they murdered his mother, Shardona Coleman-Singleton, and eight other people in a shooting at Charleston Emanuel AME Church in 2015.

Gov. Beshear: Saturday's COVID-19 Report Is 'Frightening'

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear said Saturday he is excited to be out of quarantine, but today's COVID-19 report is, "in a word, frightening." The Governor said this is Kentucky's highest day of newly reported cases by a significant amount, except for the one day when a backlog of cases from Fayette County were added.

"This is exploding all over the country. Yesterday was the highest amount of cases ever reported in a single day in the United States," Gov. Beshear said. "We've got to do better, and on Monday we'll be talking about new recommendations to counties that are in the red. We've got to tamp down these cases. The more cases, the more people that end up in the hospital and the more people die."

By Tommy Newton

Bowling Green, KY - The Western Kentucky University Department of Art, accredited since the mid-1990s by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, is excited to announce to announce the change of departmental name to Department of Art & Design. This new name, approved in a unanimous decision by the faculty, more clearly articulates the department's programs, population, and scope.

The study of art and design has been the bedrock of the department's curriculum throughout its history, with instruction and degrees in the studio arts, graphic design, art education, and art history. They have recently developed new programs in computer animation, housed in the department, and game design, a joint program with the Departments of Communication and Computer Science.

Day two on GRL in the 2020 CUSA fishing tournament

Visitors are invited to click on the Columbia Magazine Guide to Adair County for unique places to visit while in town for the Crappie USA Classic.

By Linda Waggener

Saturday morning, October 24, 2020 -- The 2020 Crappie USA (CUSA) Classic is ready for day two on Green River Lake with local and traveling anglers vying for a prize of $125,000 to be given away this afternoon.

Evan Waggener, my grandson and personal fishing guide, said as you sit in the boat in the morning mist, waiting to begin, "It’s very frustrating usually, no matter if there’s a little fog or a wall so thick you can’t see the boats right next to you, watching the time for fishing drift away."

"It begins to be calming," he said, "to watch the sun peek through clouds and the wind eventually take the fog off the lake."
