Double rainbows ends from Pampered Angus Ranch

2020-09-29 - New Columbia, Adair County, KY - Photo by Victoria Pike of Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Ranch.
A double rainbow over New Columbia and the Ranch! Vicky writes, "I can barely see the end of the rainbow on the ground. Reckon that’s where the oil is. Never saw the tail end of a rainbow on the ground before." She figures that's where Woody's drilling should begin. We'll call CNN when it's time to drill the rainbow well in - right after news breaks on CM, of course.

Governor's Tuesday update: 2nd highest day for new cases

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday updated Kentuckians on the state's continuing efforts to fight the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) and said the state has reported the second-highest daily total of new cases.

"I said yesterday I believe we're at the start of a new escalation. We're certainly seeing that in today's numbers. That means we've got to work harder. This is a war and we've won many battles, but we can't walk away from the battlefield," the Governor said. "I really need your help. Right now, moving into the fall, has the potential to be the most dangerous time we have seen in Kentucky. But it doesn't have to be, because we know there is a vaccine in our future, we just have to get to the point where we can prove that it's effective and deploy it to enough people. Are we willing to do what it takes to protect one another until that point in time? I think the answer is yes, but we've got to prove it."

As of 4 p.m. Sept. 29, Gov. Beshear said there were at least 67,856 coronavirus cases in Kentucky, 1,018 of which were newly reported Tuesday. One hundred and fifty-seven of the newly reported cases were from children ages 18 and younger, of which 27 were children ages 5 and under. The youngest was only 2 months old.

"Today we are reporting our second-highest total of new COVID-19 cases that we have had since March 6," the Governor said. "We need you to wear a facial covering. This ought to be a wake-up call. We can't let this thing get out of control again because we're tired. We know the steps that it takes."

Compressed air sprayer manufacturer plans to begin operation by end of 2020

By Crystal Staley/Jack Mazurak

Frankfort, KY - Chapin International Inc., a manufacturer of metal compressed air sprayers, plans to locate a production operation in Mount Vernon with a nearly $5.5 million investment creating up to 100 full-time jobs in the coming years, Gov. Andy Beshear announced today.

To encourage the investment and job growth in the community, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) recently preliminarily approved a 10-year incentive agreement with the company under the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based agreement can provide up to $1 million in tax incentives based on the company's investment of $5.495 million and annual targets of:
  • Creation and maintenance of 100 Kentucky-resident, full-time jobs across 10 years; and
  • Paying an average hourly wage of $22.40 including benefits across those jobs.
By meeting its annual targets over the agreement term, the company can be eligible to keep a portion of the new tax revenue it generates. The company may claim eligible incentives against its income tax liability and/or wage assessments.

Letter: Mushroom under attack

Marie Freeman writes:
I believe that's a parasite that has attacked the mushroom. If you happen to see a mushroom that looks like it stuck its finger in a light socket you're probably seeing something rarely seen.

Called a 'mycoparasitic mucorale,' Syzygites megalocarpes pin mold has been found on about 65 different mushrooms, but it will only appear when the temperature and humidity are absolutely what it considers perfect. It has multi branched sporangiophores that make the mushrooms it attacks look like it is having a bad hair day. This pin mold can appear overnight. Great picture! You timed that one perfectly :-)
