Gov. Beshear's Wednesday update

Frankfort, KY – Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday updated Kentuckians on the state’s continuing efforts to fight the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).

The Governor also was joined Wednesday by state Rep. Charles Booker and J. Michael Brown, secretary of the Governor’s executive cabinet, to respond to questions about the grand jury report into the shooting death of Breonna Taylor in Louisville.

The Governor acknowledged that he could not control the decision made, but did call for more information to be released and committed to listening, hearing and doing more.

Agape House Diaper Give-Away, Sat 26 Sept 2020

The Agape House PRC will have a Drive-thru-Diaper-and-Wipes Give-Away. This will be held from 8:30amCT to 11amCT this Saturday, September 26, 2020, at 363 Office Park Drive, Suite 204, Columbia, KY.

If you know someone in need of diapers and wipes, please have them to come by.

Everyone will be asked to stay in their cars, and the products will be brought to them.

City of Columbia announces Halloween plans

The City of Columbia will be having Halloween activities. On Friday, October 30, 2020, the City encourages businesses on the Square to dress up, and to send the pictures to the City of Columbia Municipal Government Facebook page for posting.

If businesses want to have candy available, they are to use COVID guidelines for distribution. Orange light bulbs and lighting can be used to decorate your homes.

We will have two food trucks set up in the city parking lot on the corner of Merchant and Campbellsville Streets. They will be there starting at lunchtime.

The Columbia City Police will be releasing hours for Halloween trick or treating for Saturday, October 31, 2020.

Sheila Denise Dunbar Price of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at her residence. She was 61 years old.

Mrs. Price chose cremation, and a Celebration of Life service is scheduled from NoonCT to 5pmCT on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at at 64 Kay Dunbar Rd. Columbia, KY. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Larry Allen Morgan, 58, Columbia, KY (1962-2020)

Larry Allen Morgan of Columbia passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at his home. He was 58 years old.

Visitation will be held from 3:30pmCT until 6pmCT on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Cremation will follow the visitation.

All attendees to the visitation are required to wear a facial covering and follow the Healthy at Work guidelines.

Lillie Irene Roark, 69, Campbellsville, KY (1950-2020)

Lillie Irene Roark of Campbellsville passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at her residence. She was 69 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT on Friday, September 25, 2020, at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Asberry and Bro. Shane Gaskins officiating. Burial will follow in the Cold Springs Cemetery in Casey County.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue on Friday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.

For the health and respect of the family, please follow all rules for social distancing and The Healthy at Work Guidelines. Everyone attending will be required to wear a mask or face covering.

COVID-19 update from Judge Executive Cowan

9/22/2020 Update - I was afraid our update wasn't going to be good since it was getting late and no information. I was right.

Per the Lake Cumberland District Health Department we have 8 new cases of COVID19 to report. We had 0 released today.

W have now had 314 total cases with 272 recovered and 19 deaths.

We have 23 active cases, all on home isolation.

We have no one in the hospital at this time. These numbers are concerning with school starting back to in person classes this week, as 9 of our active cases are age 20 or under.

Please explain to your children the importance of wearing your mask, washing your hands, and social distancing.

Creason to lead Sept. 30 chapel service at CU

Campbellsville, KY - Trent Creason, director of student activities, is overseeing Outdoor Week at Campbellsville University and will speak at the Wednesday, September 30, 2020, chapel service at 10amET as part of the event.

The service will be available to watch live online at http://www.facebook.com/campbellsvilleuniversity or www.wlcutv.com, as well as on Comcast channel 10 and digital channel 15.1 on TV.

Outdoor Week is an annual event held by Campbellsville University to encourage students to enjoy nature by engaging in various outdoor activities.

Adair Co. Public Library announces new hours

The Adair County Public Library will have new hours beginning Monday, October 5, 2020. New hours will be Monday through Friday from 8amCT until 5pmCT, and Saturdays from 8amCT until NoonCT.

We will still be taking appointments for browsing, computer use, virtual learning, faxing and copy service.

Curbside service is still available for anyone.

Wi-Fi is on from 6amCT until 9pmCT each day. You can access Wi-Fi from our parking lot.

New hours at Adair County Adult Education

Adair County Adult Education, 969 Campbellsville Rd., Columbia, KY, has new hours. We are now open:
  • Mondays from 8amCT to 4pmCT
  • Tuesdays from 8amCT to 5pmCT
  • Wednesday from 8amCT to 5pmCT
  • Thursdays from 8amCT to 4pmCT
If necessary, we can come in on a Friday to accommodate your schedule.

Also, MANY things can now be done from home, including taking the actual GED test. We have laptops that can be loaned out for testing or for remote learning. Now is a GREAT time to take advantage of time at home in order to earn your GED! Please call us at 270-384-1741.

KSP: 2 escape from Hardin Co. center

Elizabethtown, KY - Kentucky State Police and the Hardin County Detention Center is requesting the publics assistance in locating two escaped inmates from the Hardin County Detention Center substance abuse program annex. At approximately 11:30 P.M. ET, Kentucky State Police was notified after discovering two inmates, Carl Steven Brooks and John Thomas Tinsley, Jr., missing from the HCDC annex.

Brooks, 33, is described as a white male standing 5' 10" and weighing 182 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Thomas, 25, is described as white male standing 5' 9" and weighing 140 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Both Brooks and Thomas were being held on probation violations. Brooks' last listed address was in the Brandenburg area of Meade County. Tinsley's last listed address was in the Radcliff area.

The public is asked not to approach Brooks or Thomas if located. Anyone with information about Brooks or Thomas is ask to contact the Kentucky State Police at 270-766-5078 or by dialing 911.

Vernon Eugene "Fireball" Bass passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020 at his home. He was 84 years old.

The funeral services for Vernon Eugene "Fireball" Bass will be conducted at 1pmCT on Friday, September 25, 2020, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY, with Bro. Mike Riley officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Green County.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 7pmCT on Thursday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, and after 7amCT on Friday until the time of the funeral service.
