Andy Beshear on Saturday updated Kentuckians on the state's continuing efforts to fight the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). "Now is the time when we determine if we can open schools safely, if we can get back to doing so many things we care about; so do your part." Case Information As of 4 p.m. Aug. 22, Gov. Beshear said there were at least 43,066 coronavirus cases in Kentucky, 814 of which were newly reported Saturday. Seventeen of the newly reported cases were from children age 5 and younger. KYTC: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign Aug. 21- Sept. 7 By Erin G. Eggen Frankfort, KY - Labor Day falls on September 7, 2020. This Labor Day weekend, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is joining the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and law enforcement across the nation in reminding drivers to "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." "It's been a tough year for all Kentuckians and I want us to have a great Labor Day Weekend," said Gov. Beshear. "But to keep each other safe, I've got to ask you two things. First, please celebrate safely - follow precautions at bars, restaurants and tourist attractions and limit social gatherings to ten people or fewer. Second, please get home safely. Drive sober or plan a ride with someone who is to protect yourself and everyone on the road." While law enforcement officers patrol for impaired drivers year-round, NHTSA says impaired driving-related crashes tend to increase during the Labor Day holiday period. "If you are under the influence of any substance and choose to get behind the wheel, you put everyone on the road in danger, including yourself," said KYTC Secretary Jim Gray. "No matter the occasion, always plan for a designated driver." Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2020-08-22 07:52:24 | Comments | Printable version

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 08/21/2020 Eight new cases reported in Adair at week's end By Amy Tomlinson Lake Cumberland District Health Department New Cases: We report that our total case count has increased by 38 today: Adair: 8; Casey: 3; Clinton: 2; Cumberland: 3; Green: 3; McCreary: 1; Pulaski: 12; Russell: 3; and, Taylor: 3. Our current new case growth rate is: 1.016. This means our total case count is projected to double every 43.68 days. Even without a large number of new nursing home cases to report, we still added 38 new cases today. Also, our total number of hospitalizations have increased by 2 to 22. One area hospital has asked for increased surveillance data to be better prepared for a spike. Also, many of the schools are asking for increased access to information. We have complied by adding our Master Dataset to our main COVID-19 page, and by providing a special report to the inquiring hospital. I have had numerous requests for information tied to school positives. Between faculty, staff, and students, we have positive cases currently tied to 5 public schools, 2 private schools, and 4 colleges/universities. Please help us slow the spread of COVID-19 by wearing your face covering, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing your hand hygiene, increasing your general sanitation, and by avoiding the touching of your face. Green County Schools will close for two weeks The Green County, KY School District made a decision in partnership with the health department to close for two weeks based on the numbers of COVID-19 cases rising. School will be held virtually starting Monday, August 24, 2020 and reopen after the Labor Day holiday on September 8, 2020. It was announced Friday afternoon on the District's public Facebook page that "out of an abundance of caution" they will close for the coming two weeks because of the rise in community cases. They had opened for the first week of school while keeping watch on the daily active COVID-19 pandemic case index. The graph shows the numbers of cases growing in the community and that led to the decision. 2020-08-22 06:01:02 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Education Birthdays and Anniversaries for August 22 Happy Anniversary, Alice and Everett Wheeler (1961) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, David and Holly Jessie (1986) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Austen McCann | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Duchie Beck Helm | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Jacob Burton (1986) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Jacob Curry (2003) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, James (Bubby) Jessee | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Jamie Phelps | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Jaxon Trent Spires (2004) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Kevin Wilson | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Melody Russell Pollard | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Noah Polston (1997) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Tami Coomer Gearlds (1979) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Wanda Beard | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Adrian (Tater) Wethington, 76, Liberty, KY (1943-2020) Obituary | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Aileen P.
