Letter: searching for Naylor/Nailor ancestor

Bruce Naylor writes:
My grandmother was Jennie Waggener Naylor, a daughter of Edmund Pendleton Waggener.

I am in the process of writing a history of my line of Naylors, and I was fortunate to have access to the digital records from 1900-1910 which were very helpful for me in the process. I'm not looking for an obituary on my great aunt, Savannah Leila Nailor, published I think, in June of 1917. Her death was in in San Antonio, TX but the notation on the certificate indicates the obit would be in Columbia.

So, my question is if these records are housed in the paper or at a distant on-line site and if you might be able to direct me that site? I appreciate any help you might be able to provide.

Sincerely,
Bruce Addis Naylor
Norman, Oklahoma
For Mr. Naylor and any who are searching records, we know of one expert on old Adair County News issues, he writes under the name of JIM, and we will share this letter with him. Also, the Adair County Public Library has an incredible genealogy department (about to have its own building) and they will have helpful answers.
Good luck with your search, Linda Waggener

General assembly makes COVID-19 focus of Interim Session

By Noah Lucas

Frankfort, KY - The 2020 General Assembly's Interim Joint Committees will make issues related to COVID-19 the top focus of its interim session meeting agendas. Each of the committees meeting the week of June 1-5 have placed at least one topic related to COVID-19 on its respective agenda.

"Due to the unprecedented environment in which we find ourselves, the legislature finds it necessary to approach this year's interim as an essential component for Kentucky's COVID-19 recovery plans," Senate President Robert Stivers and House Speaker David Osborne said. "The General Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to the Commonwealth earlier this year by restructuring its session schedule to focus on providing Kentuckians as much relief as possible in light of the effects of the pandemic. With COVID-19 as the focal point of the interim schedule, we will ensure that we are thoroughly prepared to remedy any further fallout when we are once again in regular session and able to pass new legislation."

As Kentucky grapples with the effects of the pandemic, the General Assembly will continue to monitor and address any additional topics related to COVID-19 as the interim session progresses.

Kentucky State Fair COVID-19 Proposal

By Sean Southard

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Ryan Quarles issued the following statement after the Kentucky State Fair Board submitted a draft proposal to Governor Andy Beshear to hold a modified Kentucky State Fair in August that respects public heath guidelines in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

"As Commissioner of Agriculture and a member of the Kentucky State Fair Board, I am proud of my fair board colleagues who have unanimously approved a reasonable and responsible proposal to hold the State Fair in a way that respects public health. Fair Board members are committed to putting public health first, and the draft proposal submitted to Governor Beshear's administration is one made in good faith with an understanding that we need to be flexible on how we move forward.

"I am particularly pleased with the way the Fair Board has worked with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture to hear the concerns of the agricultural community, who desperately wish to maintain great traditions like our livestock shows while respecting social distancing guidelines. We are fortunate to have a board and a staff who understand the importance of this signature event to our rural communities and Kentucky's economy.

Commentary: Better, safer healthcare is here to stay

There is no going back to the days before COVID-19.

By Neil Thornbury, CEO
T.J. Regional Health

Although this pandemic is far from over, it is necessary for every healthcare organization to continue to plan ahead based on multiple scenarios and outcomes. But first, we must evaluate the current situation, and then we will discuss possible outcomes and sound strategies to come out better on the other side.

Current Situation
Since its onset, we have put forth extraordinary efforts to implement a focused, rapid, and deliberate plan to care for and address this new community-based virus. Telehealth changed from something we were looking at "in the near future" to a fully launched product in our clinics within a matter of days. A local COVID-19 hotline was implemented to triage patients over the phone to help mitigate the spread. Suddenly, virtual visits, drive-through testing, screening at the point of entry, providing iPads so patients can "visit" with loved ones, and external triage tents all blossomed overnight. And all of these measures - focused on safety and compassion - will define the way we provide care going forward.

While advancements in medical technology and ongoing research have been tremendous, healthcare as a whole, admittedly, has been notoriously slow to adapt for customer convenience. We can do better.

Bottom Rung Educators

"Bottom Rung Educators" is this writer's title for the article filled with memories of how he came to view education.

By Phillip Coffey

I got my best education 'back behind the woodshed' or the fear of having to make a trek there. O.J.T (On the job training) is the deal. Walking the gently sloping hillsides as well as steeper slopes in youth and beyond taught me a-plenty. Per usual I often insert my personal heroes (Mom and Dad), other close relatives and also distant kin as well.

I could hear among the hardwood trees and the overly tilled fields of my long gone kin whispering -'You be kind, honest, respectful, truthful, help a feller or gal get up when they are down, swallow up that pride, discard all those grudges against whomever with passion; better not give your family a bad name.'
