Birds of Kentucky: Northern Cardinal

2020-01-17 - Central Kentucky - Photo by Pen.
According to the All About Birds entry on the Northern Cardinal, "Only a few female North American songbirds sing, but the female Northern Cardinal does, and often while sitting on the nest. This may give the male information about when to bring food to the nest. A mated pair shares song phrases, but the female may sing a longer and slightly more complex song than the male."

Gov. Beshear said that the existing locations of the state's institutions are also not sustainable.

"Criminal justice reform is not just the right thing to do, but we must do it based on our current reality and on our budget," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "The reality is that, this session we can have robust, non-partisan dialogue and then move forward in a real and meaningful way to address our issues."

Personal political commentary/opinions of the writer

By State Senator Max Wise, (R-Campbellsville)
16th District: Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties

The second week of the 154th regular session of the Kentucky General Assembly saw a Senate bill become the first piece of legislation to pass out of a chamber. The measure would move gubernatorial elections to the same day Americans go to the polls to pick presidents.

The legislation, known as Senate Bill 3 (SB 3), would save local governments across Kentucky about $13.5 million every four years. The substantial savings would come because SB 3 would also align the elections for all statewide constitutionally elected officials with the presidential elections.

Adair County school board members, elected by the people, are responsible for our community's most precious resource and the key to its future - our children and their educational opportunities.

Maybe they serve to improve those opportunities for their children, maybe they do it to ensure our community is poised to meet the future with a highly educated workforce able to improve the local economy, or maybe they do it because they believe in the role public education plays in creating better Commonwealth for all citizens.

But whatever the reason, the Adair County board members serve the minimal compensation and maximum effort.
