Governor Beshear calls for criminal justice reform Says rising prison costs, incarceration rates and crumbling infrastructure need to be addressed By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen Frankfort, KY - Ahead of his budget address, Jan. 28, Gov. Andy Beshear today outlined the need for criminal justice reforms, saying the state's prison costs and populations are surging while the state's infrastructure is crumbling. Gov. Beshear said that the existing locations of the state's institutions are also not sustainable. "Criminal justice reform is not just the right thing to do, but we must do it based on our current reality and on our budget," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "The reality is that, this session we can have robust, non-partisan dialogue and then move forward in a real and meaningful way to address our issues." The measure would move gubernatorial elections to the same day Americans go to the polls to pick presidents. The legislation, known as Senate Bill 3 (SB 3), would save local governments across Kentucky about $13.5 million every four years. The substantial savings would come because SB 3 would also align the elections for all statewide constitutionally elected officials with the presidential elections. LWC Golf spring 2020 schedules released By Brady Budke Lindsey Wilson golf head coach Eric Wyrick has announced the schedules for the upcoming men and women's 2020 spring season. Both the men and women have six events on the slate. The men's squad begins their spring season on Feb. 24-25 in Mobile, Alabama to compete in the Mobile Ram Invite at Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Golf Course. The women's squad begins their spring season on March 2-3 in Gulf Shores, Ala. to compete in the Georgetown Gulf Shores Invitational at the Peninsula Golf Club. Students present ACMS maintenance needs to School Board Students have developed a compelling slide presentation and are showing it at opportunities where leaders may be able to help improve Adair County Middle School (old high school building). January 2020 is School Board Recognition Month Adair County school board members, elected by the people, are responsible for our community's most precious resource and the key to its future - our children and their educational opportunities. Maybe they serve to improve those opportunities for their children, maybe they do it to ensure our community is poised to meet the future with a highly educated workforce able to improve the local economy, or maybe they do it because they believe in the role public education plays in creating better Commonwealth for all citizens. But whatever the reason, the Adair County board members serve the minimal compensation and maximum effort.
