By Dakota Smith

Brandon Reed, National Champion of wrestling from Taylorsville, Kentucky, Safia Bright, National Champion of track and field from Ghana- fiance of Goabaone Mosheleketi, National Champion of track and field from Botswana, Zalmico Harmon, Personal Trainer of Washington D.C., Dakota Smith, Assistant Director of ISP of Jackson, Tennessee, and Sabine Eastham, Director of ISP, Germany all took to Green River Lake on July 19 to cool off for the day.

Learning how to swim is not an easy task! However, three people were able to catch on very quickly with the help of skilled swimmers, Sabine Eastham and Dakota Smith. Not only did we learn to swim, but we were able to drive a pontoon, which was very interesting to say the least!

One Giant Leap for Mankind knocked off Addie's story

Most who were adults in that year remember where they were July 20, 1969. As we mark the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing, I picture two highlights - one on the black and white television and one in the rocker watching it.

By Linda Waggener

On a hot July 20, 1969, I was in the unairconditioned home of my outrageously awesome grandmother Addie Turner Leftwich for a good visit over lunch of pinto beans, fresh garden tomatoes and buttered cornbread, after which the house would quiet as she watched her "show", her favorite soap opera, As The World Turns.

The black and white television was on in the front room with Walter Cronkite announcing the news of America's astronauts landing on the surface of the moon.

Letter: Adair County lost a true treasure, Miss Cynthia Rowe

Victoria Pike writes:
This week Adair County lost a true treasure, Miss Cynthia Rowe. She served her community for many years as an Adair County Jaycee. Also she served at the food pantry behind the Methodist church on Burkesville street. There are many children and adults who didn't go to bed hungry in this community because of her efforts. She served as chair of Parks and Recreation board as well and did her very best to see the children had a nice place to play. She was always willing to try to help anyone in need through her many connections. I will be lost without my friend. Where one was, the other wasn't far behind. She was 81 but she certainly didn't seem like it. She kept up with the rest of us 50-ish year olds up to this week. She will be greatly missed by many. --Vicky
